Water Supply Running Low
Please economize on water.
Our pumps cannot supply the

Painful Accident
Jess Todd was being shaved
last Saturday evening when he
complained of his eyes hurting
him The tonsorial artist sug-
gested that he have some mu-
rine. an eye water, placed in his j
eye. Mr. Todd agreed and aj
small quanity was poured into
his right eye. It happened not
to be Murine but oil of mustard
which burns as bad as carbolic
acid when applied to the skin.
At first it was believed that Mr.
Todd's eye was totally destroyed
but he is able to see now and in
a few days will be alright again.
The barber can't be blamed
with the accident. It was prob-
ably poured into the bottle by
some mischievous boy not desir-
ing to burn any ones eye how-
ever but did you ever sit down
where some oil of mustard was?
We warrant you didn't sit there
long and little pranks such as
that often cause serious acci-
dents. Be careful or you will
be careless, is oar advice to mis
chievous boys.
A Surprise
On Monday evening of this
week a number of neighbors and
friends very delightfully sur-
prised Mrs. Sallie J. Hale on E.
Edward St. in honor of h e r
birthday. Music was furnished
by the Misses Ringer aud Miss
Hiatt The evening was spent
rather informally until about 9
o'clock when they were served
with ice cream and cake brought
by the guests. There were
about forty guests present and
all went home wishing Mrs. Hale
many more such pleasant even-
ings.

E. 0 Whitwell smilingly ad-
dressed the voters on the street

man for this, the new fifth dis-
trict. His speech proved him to
be on the proper side of a great
many public questions, and
shows he is in sympathy with
the program and policies of Pres
ident Wilson. He is opposed to
the free postage, printing, stat
ionery, etc., which numerous
congressmen now flood the mail
with for personal gain. His re-
marks were well received—in
fact Mr. Whitwell is an interest-
ing speaker and is intelligent and
big enough to represent these
people at Washington. He is
making an aggressive campaign.

Matlack for County Attorney
Elsewhere in this issue ap-
pears the announcement of Geo.
A. Matlack, of Oklahoma City,
for the Democratic nomination
for County attorney, of Oklaho-
ma County. Perhaps there is
not a better or more favorably
known lawyer in the county,
than Judge Matlack, among the
younger members of the bar.
He came to Oklahoma in 1906,
from Bluffton, Indiana, where
he had practiced law four years,
and for two and one-half years
was Deputy Prosecuting Attor
ney. In the campaign preced-
ing statehood, and in all subse-
quent campaigns, he has been an
active participant.
Four years ago Judge Matlack
was the Democratic nominee for
County Judge, winning over two
strong opponents, after an at-
tempt was made by a little cot-
erie of crooked election officials
in Oklahoma City to count him
out. He detected their fraud,
and upon a recount by the Coun-
ty Election Board, changed ov-
er 550 votes, and won by a com-
fortable plurality. In the gener-
al election, his republican op-1
ponent was given a certificate of ;
election upon the face of the re-
turns. by only 154 votes with I
some of the same election officers I
holding the ueneral election thatj
held the primary.
