The Brownville negro question
still bobs up with regularity. The
negroesthought they had a strong
advocate of their cause in Fore-
aker, who raised such a row
about discharge of the colored
troops before the election, but
now Mr. Foreaker declines to
have ahything further to do with
the matter, as he cannot make it
serve a political end. But the
matter come up the other day in
the Benate, and will no doubt so
Jong as some statesman thinkf
he can make political capital oui
of it.

ponsibilities are great and the

action and intelligent agitation
on the part of tin newspapers
will do much in the next few
years to secure greatly needed
reforms, or rather a newer and
better order of things. There
are many matters of extreme
nublic moment which are press-

iccomplishment of which all
newspapers can work together,
regardless of such political and

France worked in Oklahoma
county under tho special act
passed by the present legislature
in a '"hurryup" style in the sess-
ion. It was a democratic meas-
ure. The state administration
charged that republican school
boards, republican boards of
county commissioners and repub-
lican township boards had made
exorbitant levies of taxes, so that
the people might feel the burden
and be deceived into thinking
that a democratic state adminis-
tration was the cause.
Anyway the democrats thought
it would make good political cap-
ital to say that this had been
done, and to saved the purses of
the people.
