LUTHER REGISTER.
VOL, 10.
Adam Again
Adam Meyer is again in the
public eye. About a month ago
one Tom Chapman took a shot
at him and Saturday the town of
Luther took another shot at Ad-
am. There is an ordinance No.
17 or 917, but the number makes
no dif., that relates and provides
that a man who owns a business
house on Main street shall keep
a barrel of water in frijnt of it.
Adam has a number of businoss
houses on the street but no bar-
rels. The city had told him to
put the barrels on the pave-
ment but Adam didn't do it, and
so the marshal put them there
and charged the said same to
the said Adam.
That's what started it. Adam
refused to pay and he was ar-
rested. Even that didn't suit
Adam a little bit and he resisted
the officer. Here the plot thick-
ens. Adam was thrown into jail
and kept there 3 hours and 27
minutSf. The jail was hot and
so was Adam and together they
furnished Adam one of the finest
sweat baths he ever experienced.
It beat the hot springs.
The next chapter opens with

soldiers, citizens, etc. in attend-
ance. Adam swore ho didn't
end tho marshal swore he did.
Judge Dana looked as wise as
Solomon and told Adam it would
be 815.95. It is said the judge
felt sorry for Adam and wept
when he assessed the fine, but
the town needed the money. Ad-
am paid'er and started to go out
in the beautiful sunshine and
hear tne birds sing.
Ala3, how little wo know what
fate has in store for us. Adam
was handed another package.
He was arrested for resisting an
an officer. At this Adam give
up and concluded everything
was gone to —well Wicher, and
told them to do there worst. They
did. He was fined on this charge
SpO md cost, but this was tem
pere 1 with mercy, and the fine
and i sts stayed during Adams
reguh attendance at Sunday
nchool.
This story is t,o be continued.
Adam hit the trail for the county
seat Monday and is going to take
a shoi at the town for false im-
prisonment, injured feelings, the
loss of about 10 pounds of flesl
while he was in that sweat bath
and a few other things.
A phone call for tie marshal
was sent in from the Katy depot
Sunday morning. The marshal
went down to the. depot anc
found a tramp on top of one ot
the passenger cars who refused
to come down at the command
of the conductor, but climed
down when he saw the marshal.
He was brought up town, but as
he had no money io pay a fine
with, and the officer did not know
what kind of a charge to bring
against him, he way turned lose.
After so long the business men
have complied with the ordinance
to keep barrels of water at both
the ffont and back doors of their
business houses to ba used in
case of fire. This would help
sime, if the lire was discovered
in time, but otherwise they would
not amount to much. A tank on
