Lewis Walters and wife of
Stillwater were here oyer Sun-
day. Mr. Walters was out looking
at his farm 4 miles south of town.
He tells us that while the high
water damaged some of his cot-
ton he is going to have a great
corn crop and estimates the yield
at 75 bushels to the acre. This
corn is on bottom land.

does not see anything in the crop

J. D. Cole and Mrs. Lane were
married at Oklahoma City Mon-
day, July G. They went from
there to Fletcher and visited a
couple of days with E. O. Cole.
Tuesday they were entertained
at dinner by A. G, Cole, Wed-
nesday at dinner by Dr. Norman
supper at W. J. Adams' and
Thusday morning at Grandpa
Goodrick's. They left last even-
ing for their home at Searcy,
Ark. A Friend.

nesday night on their way to

Rev. Watson Dana was here
Wednesday. He has been visit-
ing in Kansas City and is now on
his way home in Ohio.
The town is to have more dogs
O. S. Hollis and Dr. Perisho
have ordered a pair of pedigreed
ones from Indiana and J. Carl
Finch and Q. M.Cole a pair from
Kentucky. Boys we thought
there was enough hero already.
Kingsbury was caught in a
box car in Nebraska two weeks
ago. Tuesday he wa3 caught
again at Frisbee, Arizona. Next
week he will probably be found
in Texas, but we will keep you
posted.
Several persons should take
pattern after G. R. Norman and
build a few residences for rent.
Now that the school bonds are
voted and we are assured a brand
new school house tenant's houses
will be above par.
Master Donald McCutchen was
the fortunate one in saving "The
Buster Brown ads" of A. G.
Cole's and won the prize a hand-
some pair of Buster Brown slip-
pers. He cut out 49 winning the
prize by a margin of 3 over Miss
Ruth Finch. We might add that
in a short time the prizes will be
awarded to the three who pro-
duce the best drawing of the
card Mr. Cole is sending out.

Three Kansas Items.
A small tornado made its ap-
pearance at Hollis recently. It
laprded on James Decker's place,
blew over a barn and did a num-
ber of other things. A horsa
hitched to a buggy and tied to a
post was in its path. It yanked
the hitcning post out of tho
ground, and tore it loose from the
horse, but the horso was not in-
jured.
A man driving an auto down
at Hiawatha, while running a
pretty good dip, ran into an ice
wagon and smashed his machine
pretty badly. When he saw
what was going to happen he got
excited, and being used to driv-
ing horses began shouting:
"Whoa, whoa," and forgot to
use the brakes on the machine,
but the thing wouldn't "whoa."
"A woman," observes the At-
chison Globe, "is very quick.
We heard one talking this morn-
ing and she was telling a story
about a very large woman. There
was a very large woman in the
party, and although the woman
who was telling the story intend-
ed to say "a great big, fat wo-
man," she caught herself in time
and said "a great, big, fine look-
ing woman."
