Making Tempting Suggestions.
The grocer and the baker can in-
crease their trade by suggesting and
describing in their advertisements the
various articles which the\ have in
stock with which the public is but
little acquainted. Many a housewife
would greatly increase her purchases
were she tempted by descriptions of
delicacies of which she had not pre-
viously thought.—Printer'^ Ink.
The lyceum lecture and concert
course, heretofore advertised for LI
Reno this winter, will cost $li<l0, and in
order to secure it the people must in-
terest themselves to the extent of pur-
chasing at least 275 tickets in advance,
as no one cai es to stand responsible for
this amount of money when there is not
a cent of gain or profit in it to them.
nothing but for the public's good. Mr.
Trulock took this matter in hand last
year and made a success of it, and will
make a success of it this year or refund
the money paid him for season tickets.
J51 Reno cannot afford to let an enter-
prise of this kind fail for want of prop-
er support, and we sincerely hope that
the people will come forward and take
the required number of tickets neces-
sary to guarantee the course. Remem
ber the sale of season tickets must b<
closed up by the 10th of October.
Anti-Sweat-Shop Crusade.
An organization which is making it-
self felt in a decidedly practical way is
the "National C<-. umers' League,''
which recently '.>ok up the cudgels in
behalf of the employes in stores, and is
now waging a vigorous warfare against
the sweat shop s\stem Their plan to
kill the sale of sweat-shop products and
force the manufacturers to better met.h
ods is described in the current number
of Harper's Bazar.
In September," says the Bazar, "a
new label will appear on certain makes
of white muslin underweor, and a large
number of women all over the country
are pledged to purchase no other. Tht
label bears a circle enclosing these
words, 'National Consumers' League;'
the circle has two wings, on one ol
which is printed, 'Made under clean
and wholesome conditions, and on the
other, 'License to use this label is
granted after investigation.' The label
means that articles bearing itare guar-
anteed not to have been made, in sweat-
shops. but in factories which are lire-
proof ond sanitary, which employ no
child labor, and have a reasonable lim-
it on the hours of toil."

States treasury will soon issue $10.-
000.000 of fractional paper currency
in denominations of 25 and 50 cents,
and perhaps smaller, to meet the
larjje demand, principally from the
west. The initiative came from Ne-
braska. in the shape of a circular ad-
dressed to numerous congressmen,
asking them to favor a bill embodying
a provision for the issue of small pa-
per currency. The suggestion lias
met with favor at the treasury depart-
ment, and it is said that in a short
time $10,000,000 of this currency
will lie placed on sale in the various
postoHiees where the demand is the
greatest. The main object to be sub-
served is to facilitate the transmission
of small amounts of money in letters
for the benefit of the country people
making small mail purchases at a dis-
tance. Without such conveniences,
small sums arc sent in silver and arc
easily detected in letters, or a postal
order must be purchased, involving
unnecessary expense.
