VOL. 1).
LUTHER, OKLAHOMA, FRIDAY, .JULY 3, 1908.
The Glorious 4th.
Saturday is the 4th; the groat
national holiday. Tiiia i3 the
day John Hancock put his name
to the Decoration of Independ-
ence and Uncle Sam also put a
chip on his shoulder and told
King George ho would like to soe
hiai knock it off. As an Ameri-
can citizen you ought to show
your patriotism some way. If
you are a cross, sour old sinner
try and smile Saturday, for if
there had b v n no 4th of July you
would never have known what j
glory it was to live under the
Stars and Stripes. If you are an
old maid give some boy, about
the fii^e your boy would have been
had you got married ton years
ajo, a half dollar and toll hiai to
blow it in for fire cracker.' If you
are too old to caper around give
the grand-children full swing of
the house and lei. them rai o old
Ned, it's to be hopsd you woat
have any fireworks in the next
world. If you are an old batch-
elor or widower propose to some
nice widow, as she may be so full
of love for her country that she
could spare a lirtle for you and
riiake the mistake of her life by
marrying you. If you are a kid
make all the noise you can, singe
your eye brows, run a nail in
your Toot, shoot your aunt in
the leg with your ley cannon,
break an arm—bi a patriotic kid.
All this goes on the 4th. Don't
fill up on rotgut and disgust your
friends. D n't think your stom-
ach is a railroad tank and fill it
full of hot stale beer and look like
an idiot. Don't get drunk. There
is no patriotism in liquor. Don't
fight unless you run across an
Englishman. Its no misdemean-
or to whip an Englishman on the
4th. I::ft patriotic. Hang your
banners on the outer wall. Let,
your slogan be—we are the people

irou will find in this issue of
the Register a call for an election
to grant a franchis e to the Ra-
mona Heat, Light and Power
company, of Tulsa. Tho ordin-
ance that is to be pissed by the
board of trustees is also publish-
ed which you can read. Natur-
al gas is pretty handy to have
around and especially in the
•summer time when the women
want to avoid the discomforts of
"stewing" over a bfg hot cook
stove and allows them to get a
quick meal and get their work
over. Its cleaner than coal and
no fuel to carry in or ashes to
carry out. It is claimed to be
cheaper than coal, but this can
be demonstrated better after you
have tried it.
Luther had a pre-lth of July
celebration Saturday evening by
the burning of John Nichols' barn
in tho west part of town. The
building was discovered to be on
fire about six o'clock and be-
fore any attempt could be made
to extinguish it, it had gained
such headway that all that could
be done was to save the contents
The fire was started by little
Claude Delaporte and his little
match while he was playing
around the barn. The loss is
about $300 with no insurance.

IF SOME ONE had banked ten dollars at five per
cent compound interest 200 years ago arid you today had
that ten dollars and interest on it you would have over
FIVE TONS of silver dollars.
