from home to find it, that could
well as not be adapted by the adhool
hoard in the disposition of the bonds
that have Just been, voted In Shaw
nee, and which although not original
with t3ie News is nevertheless one
of merit and ought to receive atten-
tion.
When it coines to the time of hav-
ing the bonds prinbud Cor salo they
should be issued in sums of fifty, one
hundroa and .*> on, and an opportu-
nity given the citizens of Shawnee
to purchase them at their face value.
We believe that every dollar of these
school bonds can be sold right here
in Shawnee and to Shawnee capital
without going out among strangers
to find purchasers, and instead of
sending Shawnee money away from
home to pay tJie Interest on them,
keep that money in Shawnee to help
improve and build up Shawnee, in-
stead of sending it out of town to
build up some either locality from
wflioh Shawnee receives no benefits.
There is no txcofle for madill* tkese
bonds off east and create a drain on
Shawnee annually with which to meet
the interest, when they can be re-
tained at home and the interest re-
main here to help build up Shawnee.
The News believes that every dollar
of these school bonds can be dispos-
ed of right here at home instead of
■sending them away.
If theaa bonds are retained at
home in the hands of Shawnee people
they can be used in cases of neces-
sky for other purposes that will prove
b jre«{ir.ia] to this town. Suppose
«K#me thrifty young man (has a hundred
dollars deposited in the bank that he
<lpee not care to loan on real estate
nor desire to invest, he can easily
take one of these bonds drawing a
larger rate of interest than he can
receive from the banks and place it
«in a bond, or as many as he has the
money to buy, and at any time he
may want to use the money the bond
can be substituted for money and at
the same timo be retained at home,
the interest remain here to build up
Shawnee. These hoods are always
good for catfh, Or cash loans if it
should be so desired upon the part
of the holder. The idea is certainly
worthy of careful consideration and
should be given a trial and ascertain-
ed whether or not it can be do::
SENATORAL GALL.
Potlitlcal gall seems to have been
one of Oklahoma's products that while
advertised quite extensively has never
been regarded strictly as a home pro-
duct to the extent as to be placed in
4 he foreground as an immigration get-
ter. yet it has attracted much atten-
tion recently by having been advanc-
ed to a conspicuous position by Ok-
lahoma political statesmen, would
be. What we regard as an excellent
variety of Oklahoma political gall
was spread out for inspection by S«n
ator Owen at Bridgeport; Connecticut
the other day where he made
speech. While the senator is a good
talker from the democratic standpoint
toe should however, have confined
himself to both sides of the conditions
as they really are in this state, but
he either overlooked things that his
"beloved ptary" is doing at home or
lie cono«aJe4 the facts for pod it leal
effect. He told the people of the

inent has slowly drifted to a point
where selfish Interests control our
laws and have enabled a code of laws
to be established by wftich the great'
vst principle of tho Oeclaiatlon of In
dependence has been made a nullty.
Prom the above It run be safely
inferred that the senator Is In touch
with his party and strictly In liar-
nwjny with its methods of deception
practiced upon the people at the time
they were seeking to gain control of
the state. "They sent to the const 1
tutlonal conventk.li men who were
connected with the doctrine, 'let the
people rule.'" This evidently sound-
ed well to the ears of an audience
that were ignorant of fcow well th y
bud adhered to the doctrine which
his party had formulated and preach
ed up and down the state for the ex
press purpose of securing votes and
then ignore their own teachings
Machine foundation makes almost
unadvoidable bad government," he
says, which shows that in his effort
to convince the Onectlcut democracy
that Oklahoma democracy had solved
the political problem and still he ha
mind how grossly they had de-
oelved and betrayed the people by
abrogating all the antl-electlon and
constitutional promises the had creat-
ed. "It leads most Inevitably to th«
promotion of selfish men, who are
in politics purely for selfish pur-
poses, and as a consequence we find
our'government has slowly drifted to
a point where selfish interest controls
our laws and have enabled a code
of laws to be established by which
the greatest princlplos of the Declara-
tion of Independence has been made
nullty."
How true have the words come of
which die senator In a moment of po-
litical consciousness admits would re-
sult from machine government, the
very thing that has been the result
>f machine government In Oklahoma
although one would not think suoh
to have been truo from the senator's
polltcal gall displayed to a strange
audience whore the facts were un-
known. Had the Bedford audience
knew the facts as they are what
would they have thought of Oklaho-
ma's choice for the senate?
The closing paragraphs of Owen's
speech are more ridiculous than those
we have quoted to the people who
know what existing facts are and
Chose as he states them to be. This
is his closing eulogy of "letting the
pimple rule" in Oklahoma, and which
must have made his audience
vious of their Inability of nof being
able to participate I nthelr great en
jovments:
"The problem in Oklahoma has
been the restoration of Che 'people's
rule.' We are not afraid of our peo-
ple In Oklahoma. For these reasons
In Oklahoma we first established 'the
people's rue' by the 'initiative and
referendum," In city, oorunty and
state. Second, a mandatory primary
for the nomination of all party candi-
dates. Third, by preventing the use
of moneys in election*, ajid with this
we have driven lobbies from our cap-
ital. We have demised waya andl
means for the control of monopoly
and for the control of public corpor-
ations.
"With a view to the Immediate con-
trol of monopolies in Oklahoma the
stltution provides for the complete
control of all corporations in the state
under equitable rules, with full pub-
licity, andt where monopolies neces-
sarily exist, with a provision fur fix-
ing a limitation upon their power to
tax the people.
Tlho people In Oklahoma are sover
eign, and will not permit any corpora,
tion existing by the sovereign will to
abuse the right of a public franchise
by gross and obvious unfairness to
the people from whom such corpora-
tion derives its life."
