He wanted to propose that night.
To see If he oould get her,
But thought It wouldn't seem fust right
The first time that he met her.
And so he took her little hand,
And over it he bended,
And to be back again he planned
Before the week had ended.
He really felt he couldn't wait;
He couldn't .at or slumber.
But when he called to keep the date

Why There It Nothing Doing.
Making bricks without straw Is 1
light holiday task compared to mak
lug a campaign without an Issue. For
some reason which a good guesser
might divine the people absolutely re-
fuse to get excited when1 there Is noth-
ing to get excited nl>out.
l'eople wbo would be willing to sit
up nights to love their country in case
of a necessity feel that they have done
their whole duty when they take the
time to vote, without rushing out to
hear speakers who do not even pretend
to believe that the candidate of the op-
posing party will steal sheep.
Surely It Is better to deliberate by
the fireside than on the street corners
over such a grave and Important mat-
ter as the election of a president, but
who would have believed a few years
ago that we would be nble In the pres-
ent generation to rench such a high de-
gree of civilization?
King George Dead.
London, Oct. 15—the death of
King George, of Saxony, which occurred
early this morning, Prince Frederick he-
comes king of that principality. He is
the husband of the Princess Louise, one
of the principals in the Saxon scandal.

DO YOU BELIEVE IN SIGNS?
A mark, note, token or symptom, in-
dicates that by which anything may be
known that is, we are forewarned if evil
is to befall us, or we have the pleasure of
anticipation if the signs be token a for-
tunate occurrence. Accidental occur-
rences all have their signs, every disease
lias its symptons. The point is io heed
the former, and counteract the effect of j
the later. Spells of sick headache fol-
low indigestion and stomach disorders,
belching, billiousness and dyspepsia are
signs of sickness. People that believe
in these signs and know that' they are
true from experience, can get immediate
relief and a speedy cure by the use of

To the Voters of Pottawato-
mie County.
In announcing myself as a candidate
for the office of County Attorney I desire
to state that I do so irrespective of party
politics. I come before you as a resident
and taxpayer and one interested in .the
best management of the affairs of our
county, and believe my views are suffi-
ciently well known to need no further
explanation on my part.
I can promise that if elected no money
will come from the law breakers to me,
but will go direct into the county fund
for the benefit of the school children,
etc. I believe that public gambling should
cease, and if elected will prosecute all
cases of gambling wheie the evidence
warrants. The same on the liquor ques-
tion. I believe the saloon keeper has a
right to sell liquor under our laws, pro-
viding he has a legal license, aud obeys
the law, but if he violates the law he
should be prosecuted, not persecuted.
I believe my old time friends and ac-
quaintance will know the motive that act-
uates me in thus coming before you, and
to those who do not know me, I simply
wish that you would investigate the pres-
ent condition of our county, and if
after so doing, you believe I am the man
to improve said condition, and vou
c.111 consistently support me, I shall
fully appreciate the same, and. if elected,
will strive in every way to fulfill my
oath of office, and shall see that the l.iws
of our territory are upheld and enforced,
ever giving equal justice to all and grant-
ing special privileges to none. Yours
for law enforcement, >
