St. Louis July 6.—In the Philippine
Exposition, the great surprise of the
World's Fair, is found a ready answer to
that first question of all visitors, "Where
can I see the most in the least time?
The shorter the time allowance the more
importance this question assumes, al-
though all want to see the best first and
to lose no time in doing so.
Nothing offers more for time expended
than a short cut to the Philippines or a
day spent with Uncle Sam's possessions
of the far east.
It is safe to say that no feature of the
fair so utterly amazes the visitors as the
display of the Philippine Islands made
by the Insular government at total ex-
penditure of nearly tw© millions of dol-
lars.
Those who have been, seen and wond-
ered realize that it is the one spot 011 the
World's Fair grounds that they could
not afford to miss, but the fact that it
can all be covered on foot, that there are
benches for the weary in every part of
the grounds, and that more of the Phil-
ippines can be see with less fatigue, than
at any other spot of the fair, will appeal
to thousands upon thousands who have
little time to spend and to just as many
more who must husband their strength.
"To the Philippine Islands and Back
in a Day" is the greatest trip offered by
the Exposition, and though a week spent
with the Filipinos could be made of al
most as much value as a college course,
a single day in the native villages and
the exhibit buildings will offer material
for a volume'of travels, and from the
way the camera and note book have been
used, the visitors have plenty to work
from.
The Philippine Exposition is excep-
tionally well arranged for those who
want to spend either a day or a week in
its exploration. The exposition divides
itself naturally into two great divisions
those of the native people and of the ex
hibit buildings, showing all the Islands
are ill the way of natural resources, com
mercial conditions, educational and eth-
nological advancement.
The new bridge, which is being built,
on the river just eas,. of the Santa Fe
is about completed and contractor Mike
Ryan is having the finishing touches ap-
plied to the structuretoday. It is a solid
substantial bridge, well built, and of a
quality which will last. It is sufficiently
wide to permit of large travel, and the
road 011 each side is being put in proper
condition for travel.
The new bridge makes a short cut to
the Santa Fe shops addition and also to
the country south and east of the cit y
The Tecumseh road bridge handles traff-
ic from the west and south, while this
new bridge takes care of traffic in the
other direction.
SAFEGUARD THE CHILDREN.
Notwithstanding all that is done by
boards of health and charitably inclined
persons, the death .ate among small
children is very high during the hot
weather of the summer months in the
large cities. There is not probably on-
case of bow41 complaint ill a hundred,
however that could not be cured by the
timely use of Chamberlain's Colic, Choi'
era and Diarrhoea Remedy. For sale by
