Directions for tli«* Making of <lown* for
Summer.
A matron of forty wishing a pretty
best gown for summer will have a black
ground with velvet or green figures
small in effect: or she takes one of dark
given or navy having black dots as
stripes, small ligures or single specks.
In either case the skirt is made four
yards wide, with a godct back of three
or four narrow plaits that taper wider
toward the bottom, though not caught
except at the In-lt. The front may l>e
plain or slightly draped at one side, or
have the apron effect. Trim the skirt
ith two narrow ruffles headed with a
and of spangled jet. or have three
>ws of lace insertion. Another neat
garniture is this* rows of No. 8
lack ribbon, each headed with a
gimp of a single row of jet spangles.
The sleeves will be very large leg-of-
mutton designs, with several rows of
the skirt trimming between the elbows
and wrists. The corsage may In-
pointed one, short and round, finished
with circular l asque piece or cut with
the godet effect or fullness in
seam, so as to make a full or frill ap-
pearance. With a round waist a crust
belt is worn, finishing with two tiny
frills at the back, or a rosette and two
pointed ends turned upward. The in-
sertion is also used as a belt, but makes
the waist-line look larger, while a sin*-
ple belt of black ribbon No. 0 takes
from the size. A crush collar, one of
insertion or jet bands, will accord with
the rest of the costume. A belt and
collar of black moire are very fashion-
able. as are epaulette ruffles of lace.—

Cheerful Kmmis.
The cheerfulness of a room depends
not only upon the color and form of the
furniture, but upon the location aud
the manner in which the light is ad-
mitted. Dark materials are great ab-
sorbers of light. Dark heavy furni-
ture goes far toward making gloomy
and sepulchral a room that might l>e
light and cheerful. When black wal-
nut or rosewood furniture is used the
n should be as sunny as possible, as
these dark woods are great absorbers
of light. Dale blue, cool green shades
that harpionizc so well with these
woods prevent the light from becoming
glare and make the room pleasant
and agreeable to the senses. A gloomy
north room, on the contrary, should be
furnished with white oak or enameled
furniture and lightened by the use of
pale yellow or couleur de rose in the
hangings and wallpaper. By the ex-
ercise of taste in these matters the
northern rtanns may borrow a sunny
aspect, while the hard glure of the sun
may l>e softened by the judicious use of
cool colors and furniture that nbsorbs
nart of the light.—N. Y. Tribune.

of the Age.
KENNEDY'S
MEDICAL DISCOVERY.
DONALD KENNEDY, of ROXBURY, MASS.,
Has discovered in one of our common
pasture weeds a remedy that cures every
kir.d of Humor, from the worst Scrofula
down to a common Pimple.
He has tried it in over eleven hundred
cases, and never failed except in two cases
(both thunder humor.) He has now in his
possession over two hundred certificates
of its value, ail within twenty miles of
Boston. Send postal card for book.
A benefit is always experienced from the
first bottle, and a perfect cure is warranted
when the right quantity is taken.
When the lungs are affected it causes
shooting pains, like needles passing
through them; the same with the Liver or
Bowels. This is caused by the ducts be-
ing stopped, and always disappears In a
week after taking it. Head the label.
If the stomach is foul or bilious it will
cause squeamish feelings at first.
No change of diet ever necessary. Eat
the best you can get, and enough of it.
Dose, one tablespoonful in water at bed-
time. Sold by all Druggists.

AN INVESTIGATION
DEHANDED.
A general banking business Is done by
the human system,.because the blood de-
posits in it* vaults whatever wealth we may
gain from day to day. This wealth is laid
up againstf "a rainy day " as a reserve fund
—we're in a condition of healthy prosperity
if we have laid away sufficient capital to
draw upon in the hour of our greatest need
There is dauger in getting thin, because it's
a sign of letting down in health. To gain
in blood is nearly always to gain in whole-
some flesh. The odds are iu favor of the
germs of consumption, grip, or pneumonia,
if our liver be inactive and our blood im-
pure, or if our flesh be reduced below a
healthy standard. What is required is an
increase in o\\Xgerm-fighting strength Dr.
Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery enriches
the blood and makes it wholesome, stops
the waste of tissue and at the same time
builds up the strength. A medicine which
will rid the blood of its poisons, cleanse and
invigorate the great organs of the body,
vitalize the system, thrill the whole being
with new energy and make permanent work
of it, is surely a remedy of great value. But
when we make a positive statement that 98
>er cent, of nil cases of consumption can, if
aken ill the early stages of the disease, be
CURED with the r' Discovery," it seeiuslike
a bold assertion. All Dr. Tierce asks is that
you make a thorough investigation and
satisfy yourself of the truth of his assertion

And that ought to be enough in itself to seal the
doom of bar soap. This rubbing with soap
may get clothes clcan, if you work hard

them out ?
Follow the directions that come on
every package of Pearline, and you'll find
that you not only do away with the hard

At every point Pearline is better than

saves the rubbing—that ought to settle it.
