THE BIBLE IX BUSINESS
The traveling salecmau Is growing
better. Toe Bible is being made
part of the sample case of every
traveler now. but therv are many yet
that do not carry the Bibles, accord-
ing to J. W. Stephens of New York,
who addres# -d the monthly meeting
of the Gideons at the Kansas Cltj
T. M C. A recently. The Gideons is
au organisation of commercial trav-
elers. Mr. Stephen's address was on
"Religion In Business."
BOOST THE HOME TOWN.
It Is the patriotic duty of every
man to boost his town. If it is good
enough for him to Jive In and
make his money in, it certainly ought
to be good enough for him to speak
good word abouL A dead town 13
often the result of thoughtless ex-
pressions of a dissatisfied citUenship.
If they would only boost as they
sometimes "knock." their city would
doubtless be the Tery place they are
looking for. "Knocking" l« a habit
"Religion is not a thiug to be lei: that Is dangerous to the life of any
caged j;id chained in the meeting man. When once this habit Is formed

Kicked By a Mad Horse.
Samuel Birch, of Beetown, Wis.,
had a most narrow escape from los-
ing his leg, as no doctor could heal
the frightful sore that developed, but
at last Bucklen's Arnica Salve cured
it completely. Its the greatest healer
of ulcers, burns, bolls, eczema, scalds,
cuts, corns, cold-sores, bruises and
piles on earth. Try It. 25c at all
druggists. •
Mr. Stephens said, "but it should be
used every day in the week. Actual
ly. It seems as If we are afraid of re-
ligion and drt-ad last it get the bet-
ter at us. So we just take it ir.
broken doses every Sunday."
More than 110.000 Bibles have been
placed in the rooms of hotels from
coast to coast by the organization.
Two carloads were shipped to San
Francisco about a month ago.
DONT TRY TO BE A 8AXDOW.
Huge masses of muscle are of lit-
tle use to anybody except, perhaps, a
professional weight lifter. To tho
athlete they are a positive disad-
vantage. for they tend to make him
H "muscle bound." slow and slumsy la
his movements.
Abnormal muscles.are bad (or th
brain and the body In general. They
have to be "fed," and they requir
so much nutriment that the rest of
the body is starved, and the victim's
nenous force declines to vanishing
point.
True, certain trades, as, for kx-
ample. the blacksmith's, tend ab-
normally to develop the body in cer-
tain directions, but then the develop-
ment is so gradual and In a sense
natural that the general system Is
not upset as it is by the rapid aud
purely artiBcial abnormality produced
by au unwise use of physical cu!
ture.
Moreover, the blacksmith's ex< op-
tional muscles are of practical us.,
to him. He employs them daily in
his work, aud he Is practically un-
#>nscloBa of their existence. Ab-
normal they may be in one sense,
but through long usage they have
become a natural part of his frame.
What use, however. Is a pair of 18-
inch biceps to the average man?
Nona whatever, except perhaps to
gratify a rather curious vanity. On
the other hand." he often finds that h?
has saddled himself with
"Old Mau ol the Sea
His biceps must dally be pro-
pitiated with strenuous work with an
exerciser," and the more propitla
tion they get the more they want If
he rebel against this slavery these
forced and artificial muscles will re-
tort by dwindling till they atrophy
and eventually die.
and soon he will be using the same
"Id expressions. Let him move and
it will not be long before be will
Wish he waa back at the old place.
The man who cannot boost for a
town is not worthy to be called a
citizen He impedes progress, throt-
.iea activity and frightens immigra-
lion. If a town Is dead, then it is
the duty of some one to breathe into
life, for by so doing others will
follow suit, and like a refreshing
shower, the old town will begin to
lake on life. Nobody wants to live
in the worst town in the world
Things must look mighty good for a
newcomer to consent to settle down
aud it is wonderful how he picks out
places where there are plenty of
boosters.

The 'Scout Younger" pictures at
the Pathe Theater are said by those
who saw them recently in Oklahoma
City to be the finest "outlaw" pic-
tures they ever witnessed
The "blood and thunder" usually
seen with this kind of picture is
conspicuous by Us absence. The
pictures are true to life all the way
through. Mr. Younger himself play-
ing the part.
Mr. Younger is with the show in
person and, while shaking hands
with old friends and acquaintances
on the streets, says Shawnee is the
most progressive looking city he has
Tisited in some time. He can be
seen at the theater taking tickets on
the Inside at any time during the
performance.

The Anti-Cigarette Educational
Bureaucracy, an organization under
the statutes of Oklahoma, is repre -
regular jeeuted by V. P. Kirk, organiser and
[lecturer, who has been in Shawnee
for several weeks In the interest
of the movement, and In a talk with
M . Kirk it is learned, from signed
cards of membership, that many
business men and other citiiena are
endorsing the movement with their
names and financial aid.
A bureaucracy Is a system of gov-
ernment by department or bureaus,
each under a chief, and Mr. Kirk
establishes a bureau in every county
seat, composed of representative
citizens, and will publish the names
of the Shawnee committee in a few
days.
Under this system the State will
be organized and a systematic edu-
cational and enforcement fight will
be carried on against the cigarette
ihabit among boys. Mr. Kirk has'
made brief talks in churches on the |
subject and hopes to further address'
the genera! public.
