McGUIRE CONFIDENT.
In the midst of the doubt hanging
over the statehood Issue, Beveridge
anl McGulre sound hopeful notes. A
conference of the Republican leadc-
of both houses was followed by a con-
ference between Beveridge, McGulre
d amTton Saturday, after which
legate McGulre gave out the fol-
vlng statement:
'Statehood for Oklahoma anil Indian
rritory will win, Independent of the
tcome of the Foraker amendment,
im not authorized lo go Into the
retails except to say that this state-
ment is the result of the latest and
most careful survey of the situation
as exists here this evening."
This statement was shown to Sena
tor Beveridge, who replied, "I concur
fully ln what McGulre says. I will
go a little further and say I believe
the Foraker amendment will be de-
feated."—Ex

Statehood Situation.
Washington, March 8.—The state
hood fight stands today with the same'
relative strength on both sides of the
house, the Foraker people keeping
we'.l to the front. If anything they,
have gained strength. They have ce - j
tainly not lost it. Tbey have added j
| to their war cry that they want state-
hood for Oklahoma and Indian Ter.-i
tory and will work as hard to secure j
j it as they are doing to beat the Arizona
i and New Mexico end of the bill. In
fact the conditions in both the senate
and house are overwhelmingly in fav-
or of Oklahoma's statehood.

When Miss Doyle was found by Mr.
Braun a white rag saturated with
chloroform was bound over her
mouth and tied very tightly behind
her head. Her hands were also bound
securely together with a white strip
of cloth, which was wound several
times around her wrists and knotted.
Her face was badly burned by the ap-
plication of the chloroformed cloth
and the fingers from which the ring
was taken is slightly cut and swollen.
The back of her head Is sore, but she
does not know whether to attribute
this to a fall she may have had or to
extreme nervousness, which some-
times brings this upon her.
