PARIS Feb. 2.1. Infant mortaliiy
in Paris was iii per cent less during
the first six months of the war as
compared with the same period of tlm
preceding year and maternal mortal-
ity also decreased proportionately
during that period according to
Prof. A. Pinard a specialist in physi-
cal education and an authority on
questions relating to natality.
Prof. Pinard attributes this result
to the mciuuircH taken by the Mater-
nal fc Infantile Aid society organ-
ized at the beginning of the war un-
der the patronage of Madame Ray-
mond Polncare.
The object wiui to assure every
woman not only the proper maternal
and medical aid necessary to assnro
birth under proper conditions but
also to remedy as far as possible tho
depression resulting from the absence
of husbands In the aimy. The care
given by this society to mothers and
infants Is held to be responsible for
tho mothers and infants being par-
ticularly robust and healthy during
the period In question.

authorities that the. quarantine would

all the buildings. The guarantee was
given and as the Carranzista troops
evacuated the town sixty of their
wounded were transferred to the
Texas side of the lib) Grande and to-
day several hundred women and chil-
dren are crossing the river to Texas
refuge. A small body of soldiers is
serving as a civil guard awaiting the
entrance of the Yillista troops.
