published in the June issue, is nn

thoughts which it contains. “The
nrtiile follows:
"Elbert Hubbard. Fra Elburtus
that great philosopher who met his
untimely death when the Lusitania
went down, has this to say in re-
gard to loyalty to your employer:
If you work for a man in Hcnv-
en s name work FOR him. If he
pays wages that supply you bread
and butter work for him. speak
well of him, think well of him and
stand hy the institution which he
represents. I think if I worked
for a man I would work FOR him.
I would not work for him >i part
of his time, but all of his time, 1
would give him mv undivided scr-
vice or none. If put to a pinch an
ounce of loyalty is worth n pound
of cleverness.’

By H. KISHPAUGH.
One remedy is to mix arsenic
with bran, punch a hole with a
broom stick through the runs and
then pour n little poisoned bran in
the hole. Moles are particularly
fond of bran. A piece of fat meat
about the size of the end o!' one’s
little finger, and rolled in arsenic
also proves effective.
Another plan which has proven
a success is to open one or two
nlarcs in the runs 10 to 12 inches
long, rprinkle these well with pow-
dered lye, lav a narrow board so
that it will fit just below the sur-
face of the ground and cove* with
soil. The place should then be
nvnided for n number of hours.
Moles have n keen sense of smell
hut lve is odorless, so they walk
into it. As the lye sticks to their
feet they naturally lick it off and
are killed. I-eave ample room be-
tween the board and the bottom of
the run.
Gnrbon bisulphide will suffocate
moles, woodchucks, rabbits anil oth-
er pests if it is placed in runs
where they are. but the exits must
be closed at once. An old sponge
or some cotton waste, snaked with
the carbon dioxide should he
pushed well into the run with a
stick.

ubly we spend a goodly portion of
our working hours thinking of mat-
ters that have no connection with
our work. If our minds are oc-
cupied with something besides tin
tasks which our employer pays us
to handle, it :s impossible for us to
work efficiently.
Those who huve reached the top
of the ladder in railroad circle*
are those who have followed the
principles so strongly set forth by
Elbert Hubbard in the above para-
graph. The failures of number?
of railroad employes to get ahead
is due to the fact that they do not
niHke a study of the business in
which they arc engaged. Take a
look at a few of those who- nre
now scaling the top rung—Carl
Grey, Lewis Baldwin, W. B
Storey, Hale Holden and our own
Charier E. Sehaff (who began as a
brakeman)—and you will find
their success was due to the fact
that they took time to study the
business in which they were en-
gaged, they took pains to nrepare
themselves for the position just
ahead, or all the positions several
steps ahead. In leisure moments
’time not paid for by their em-
ployers) they made preparation
by reuding and studying the
science of railroad operation, but
this preparation did not interfere
with the performance of their tasks
while on duty. They went nt the
job with the determination to do
the thing just a little bit better
than anyone else had ever done it,
or could do it.
The successful employe is thor-
oughly loyal. He does not “bite
the hand that feeds him." No em-
ployer wants a man on a payroll
who is constantly damaging the
concern by making nasty remarks
about it. Employes who make dis-
paraging remarks about the com-
pany they are employed by stir up
a feeling of discontent among other
employes and lower their ovm mor-
ale in the eyes of the public. It’s
almost as bad us talking about your
own wife or daughter.
Let’s be 100 per cent loyal If
we can do nothing else.

DELAWARE-EDNA
GAME TO BE PLAYED
The game of hasehnll between
Delaware and Edna, which was can-
celled Thutsday, will be played nt
Delaware Sunday afternoon. After
the game was scheduled, circum-
stances nrose which necessitated the
cancelling of the game later on.
These circumstances have hern
overcome, huwwvor, and the game
will be played ns originally
scheduled. Either Brinker or Ketch-
um will do the twirling for Dela-
ware, while Cook will probably
he on the receiving end. Edna has
a strong battery in Harvey and
McCnrthy. and these two will prob-
ably work Sunday.
The Edna team has the reputa-
tion of being one of the fastest in
this section of the country and the
Delaware boys nre preparing for a
hard game. It is probable that a
number of Nowata fans will motor
to Delaware Sunday to see the game.
