will not o'vc me a nickel, but will .
hand me out a real quarter with the
American carle flapping his wings
on it, and say, “Son, go spend this 1
as you please, and ! won’t ask you i

Nbkrata Mfgh put inotfifer game In
the <ktoMi* fcolumn Friday afternoon
when Wilke’s eleven defeated the
undefeated Alva High football team
by a score of 19 to 0. The Alva
team had run up 287 points against
three opponents without being scored
upon ana they came to this city con-
fident they would go away at the
long end of at least a 25 to 0 spore.
They were sadly disappointed.
Wilke’s eleven showed all of the
fight on the dfeffense which they put
up in the Bristow game and a far
more effective offensive. The No-
wata boys made good use of the
short forward pass, scoring all three
touchdowns by this method. The
short, forward pass is not only a con-
istent ground gainer, but it also dis-
rupts the defense of the opposing
team when worked repeatedly,• This
was plainly shown in Friday’s fame.
The Alva team was heavier than
the Nowata boys but they lacked the
speed and fighting spirit. Their
backficld was slow in getting plays
started, and repeated use of a trick
play finally ended with losses. At
one stage of the game the visitors
used the old criss-cross for a aeven
yard gain.
It would be impossible to ph;k n
star out of the Nowata team When
all of the boys played such great
football. It was not a “star” propo-
sition at all, but eleven men wofking
together that the team might win,
and that’s just exactly what happen- 1
eel. The Nowata team has learned
the lesson that eleven men working j
in concert are far more effective than t
_ team where dependence is placed
on one or two “stars” for the ground
gaining. , , ^
The Nowata team scored in the
