Game Warden Shows Good Profit.
Oklahoma City, Okla.—That the
State fish and game warden's depart'
ment is one of the most productive
revenue producers in the state, if not
the most productive, is shown by fig-
ures prepared at the office of Warden
John B. Dooin, in which it appears
that the department, since the adoption
of the present game laws in 1909, has
turned over to the state a net profit In
excess of $100,000.
This income is derived from tax on
hunters' licenses and from fines col.
lected for violation of the law. War-
den Dooin's "long suit" is enforcement
of the law and the punishment of vio-
lators. There are now, it is stated,
ten prosecutions where there fotmerly
was but one.
Residence licenses to the number of
125,000 have been issued since the |
game law was passed, while 41"  hun- .
ters have received non-resident 11- j
censes and four alien liecnse-i have i
been granted. For the home hunters, j
the fee is $1.25, for none-residents of I
the state it is $l.r>, and for aliens, $25.
The total sum received from licenses I
is $131,000. Fines collected have to- !
taled $2,240.20, and since June, 1909,
the department has turned over to the
state treasurer the sum of $$133,565.20. I
The cost of running the office to the
first of the year was $30,908, leaving a
balance of over $100,000.

Norton Wins Many Cases.
Bartlesville, Okla—In a decision
handed down by Judge Ralph Camp*
— . bell in United States court, William
WA L. Norton of this city, formerly pres-
' ident of the American National bank
j of Bartlesville, and he Columbia Bank
and Trust company of Oklahoma Cfcy,
|ias been released under indictments
; pending against him in the I'nited
i States district court, but one charge
j remaining, that being of a trivial na- |
i ture. The charges embodied misap-
I propriation, false entries and false
statements to the bank examiner. The
\ decision also releases Eugene F. Blaise I
of Tulsa, who was indicted at the same
time, it being shown conclusively that
^ (here was no real foundation for the
— i criminal charges, but in a few cases
' clerical errors were brought to light
and easily explained.
] There were forty-two counts in the
I Jndictments and it is now believed that
' the cases will be dropped. Forty-one
of the charges were thrown out. leav-
ing but one to be given consideration.
The cases had caused bitter feeling lo-
cally, both Norton and Blaise having
been among this city's most prominent
citizens, and as soon as the news be-
came generally known Mr. Norton was
compelled to suspend business to re-
ceive the congratulations of his
friends.
Guilty of Robbing Bank.
Tulsa, Okla.—Fred Walker, one of
the men alleged to have taken part In
the robbery of the First State bank
of Broken Arrow, near here in April,
when $30,000 in the vault was over-
looked, was found guilty of the crime
|n the circuit court here and sen-
tenced to serve three years in the
6tate penitentiary.
Sisters in Bathing, Drown.
Guthrie, Okla.—Jean, Maude and
Eva Holden aged 15, 13 and 11. re
spectively. children of E. L. Holden,
were drowned in a pond near the Hold-
en farm 11 miles northwest of Med-
ford. Their parents were absent from
home when the girls decided to bathe
in the pond They were buried in ont
grave.

Historic Event Celebrated.
Australia recently commemorated
the one hundred and forty-first anni-
versary of Captain Cook's first, land-
ing It was in 1770 that H. M. S. En-
deavor. a barque of 370 tons, entered
the inlet first called Sting Rays liar
hoi, but afterwards Hotany Bay, from
the beauty and variety of the plants
growing about Its shore. The vessel
remained eight days, and before she
left the llritlBh flag was hoisted. As
is the custom on each recurring anni-
versary, the flag was again unfurled
upon the spot where It was first dis-
played, and w'as saluted by the guns
of the warships In the harbor.

Marietta. Okla.—Charles Liddell, 21
years old, shot and killed George llan.

Oil Company Profits.
' Tulsa, Okla.—Evidence of the prof-
| Its realized by operators in the Ok-
lahoma oil fields, is shown by the re-
cent 10 per cent dividends paid by the
Crowley Oil and Mineral company of
this city. This was the fortieth 10
per cent dividend paid by the com-
pany, and every time $20,000 has been
j paid, or a total of $1800,000, or 400
! per cent. The first dividend was paid
in 1904, showing that a 10 per cent
dividend has been paid every two or
three months.
Fifteen Dogs Burned to Death.
