In view of the campaign beins
made by the Agricultural Depart-
ment of the Rock Island Lines for ex-
I tension of the markets for the Kafirs,
' readers will be interested in the fol-
lowing statement which appeared in a
recent issue of the Chicago Herald:
''Chicago is doing considerable bus-
iness in Kafir corn and milo maize. I
No. 4 and sample grade Kafir sold in
the sample market yesterday al
$1.20, No 3 milo at $1.23 and No. 4
mixed milo at $1.20 per hundred
pounds. A sale of 25,000 bushels milo
was made yesterday to go ea«t b^
lake, the first bulk shipment of milo
by lake in the history of this
market."
It is encouraging to note that ef-
forts toward enlarging the market
i for a grain that is of vast importance
to this section are meeting with such
I success. Kansas City has been quot-
' ing Kafir for several years, but Chi-
! cago has paid little attention to the
grain until this year. The Rock
Island has been pushing the matter
I persistently for five years, the latest
j move being issuance of a number of
I the Southwest Trail, devoted exclu-
! sively to the marketing features and
J to the increase of the use of Kafir as
a human food.
