A COTTON SHIRT
SOLD IN LAWTON
A few oay* ago, one of our -tores
out on a sale of cotton shirts at 25
cents each. One of the shirts was taken
>.o the scales and weighed aitA. in-
eluding buttons, starch, etc, it weigh-
ed eight ounces. That would be two
shim to the pound of cotton. Then a
oOO-pound bale of cotton, at two shirts
, to the pound, would manufacture 1,-
000 of the.-* shirts at 25 cents each,
, would equal in shirts to $250 per hale
,of cotton, and this cotton had to be
shipped to the spinners, manufactured
and the shirts shipped back to the
: store in Lawton, and it is fair to pre-
i ume that they were manufactured
and sold at a profit. At 10 cents per
1 pound, this bale of cotton would have
brought S-"j0 but in our dreams, we
can not trace all of the $200.

Habeas Corpus proceedings will be
,'^Uuted in the Pittsburg county dis-
trict court Saturday or Monday for
the liberation of prisoners who, it is
aDeged have beer paroled or pardon-
ed by Acting Governor McAlester,
bat whose papers Secretary of State
Harrison refa-ed to certify, or Ward-
en Dick refused to liberate the pris-
oner, Norman Haskell of the legal
firm of Haskell k McAdar.s. who are
attorneys in a number of cases,
-aid that this would be next proceed-
ing. Attorneys in other cases have
conferred with Haskell & McAdar: -
and it is understood will join in the
proceeding? to be taken.

Among then; was an unconditional
pardon for Mort D. Pedkins. convict-
rd in Otsianche county for murder
and giver, a life sentence. Perkins
was convicted in Comanche coonty as
r«ing connected with the kiDing of a
young son of Dr. Z. E. Beembk-.-- m,
which happened soon after the open-
ing of the new country in 1901. Tlie
killing occurred near Lawton and
was done by the Bert Casey gang of
"utaws who invaded thst country
during the opening. The gang wa^
afterwards broken up, Casey himself
killed and several members of the
irarg sent to the penitentiary. Among
them was George Moran and Horace
the trial of other members of th
gang. They were both paroled by
Governor Haskell just before the
'lose of his term as governor.
Several attempts have !.een made
to secure a pardon for Perkins. Two
; earr, ago his friends became inter-
i^re1 ii hss beha!c but did not meet
with any success. It was said at the
