Writing on this matter to Editor J. V*. Admire,
lion. < .M. Cade of Shawnee says:
"In the issue of the Free Press of the Gth iusi. I
notice you publish my short letter to you of Aug-
ust 24.
While it was a | a-i onal letter. I did not think*
as ninch about it as I did of the seven line local ot
young men going to attend the Lawrence. Kansas.
I'niversih It struck me very forcibly that six
of the boys of Kingfisher arc compelled to attend
a Kansas Cniversity for some reason. With your
might say, our unlimited wealth in the way of lands
donated for our higher educational institutions, it
seems strange that so many of our boys are com-
pelled to go away from home to get an education.
"What's the matter with our I'niversitvIt
seems that every tiling has been appropriated that
lias been asked for by the legislatures. We have
: not been stingy There is something wrong thtfugh
I somewhere. It looks like it is on the same plan a*
a mail order house our money is going away from
I home. II there are six young men going from
Kingfisher, in the same proportion there will be,
probably lot) boys in Oklahoma attending the Km-:
sas Cniversity. and that is only one university iir
one state,
"It strikes me that our liberal appropriations.,
our thousands of acres of land, being a foundation i
for a inagnitieent endowment for our educational j
institutions, would be sufficient to give us a school
that would be the peer of any. If il isn't enough,
as soon as we get to bi a state, let us appropriate
enough money to accomplish that purpose."
There "is nothing the matter with the University
of Oklahoma. In every respect it is just as good
and some experienced educations say better than
the Kansas I'niversitv. The young man who gels
all. there *is to 4 e had at the Oklahoma Cniversity
will have all he needs for a successful life.
Neither is the trouble with the parents of these
