of education last night passed a reso-
lution requesting the city council to
call a speiial election upon voting $50,-
000 worth of bonds for the purpose of
erecting two new school buildings.

Ravia, I. T., Feb. 2.—Farmers are
plowing right along for the next crop,
and all indications point to an unus-
ually large cotton acreage, both on ac-
count of the new land and a greater
number of acres planted -to cotton on
old ground.

Mountain View, Okla., Feb. 2. Tho
Mountain View oil and gas company
of this place has been prospecting
on the A. J. Thompson place, four
miles south of town and at a depth of
four hundred feet struck a fine artes-
ian well. The water is a tine quali- i
ty. The driller, Mr. Moore, who has
had 35 years experience, pronounces
this the finest well he ever drilled in. I
This town will Incorporate in a short
time and then will put down a well
and will forever settle the water ques-
tion. Several farmers say they will .
drill artesian wells this spring.
Comanche County Bridges. * i

Lawton. Okla., Feb. 2.—The company
havinff the contract to bul'd seven
bridges in Comanche county has stra-
ted to work on the one over Cache
Creek near Temple. Okla. An effort
was put forth to build this bridge
some time ago. but the secretary of the
interior refused to Indorse the contract
and the work was stopped.

I Lawton, Oklfl-, Feb. 2.—Col. Rand-
lett. Indian agent at Anadarko, has
asked that all gambling houses in law-
ton in which monte is played be clos-
ed during the time the Indians aTc be-
ing paid at the Red store, two miles
from Lawton. Each Comanche Indian
man. woman and child will reeeu-e |5ff
which amounts to about $100,000 to be
paid at this point.
At all previous payments the Indians
liavfl spent all their money gambling
and had none left for their families.
His request has been granted.

New Faxan Case Settled.

Lawton, Okla., Feb. 2.—A patent has i
been issued (or the quarter section
upon which the townsite of New Faxon
has been built. This was one of the
moat bitter litigations that ever came
up in the Lawton land office.
Charles L. .Thornton, original entry-
man. made final proof and proved up
on the land. A protest was filed by
one of the commissioners of the old
townsite of Faxon, which was about
one mile away, stating that Thornton
was attempting to defraud the govern-
ment The case went to the general
land office, where the case was decided
in Thornton's fitvor.

Ardmore, I. T., Feb. 2.—In the fed-
eral court today several government
witnesses we're examined in tlte case
l.f I)r Hatcher, charged with the
murder of Lizzie Raisin by giving
her poison* The chief witness of the
day for the government was Dr. I .R.
Chase, a chemist of Fort Worth, who
testified to finding a deadly poison in
the stomach of the deceased.
