REPCDLICAN LlXMSLATCRi:.
Poise, j,: i Nov. :• The chctlon yes-
terday proves to have been much more of
a repiibl, in lamlsllde than the report
last night indicated. The republican
state ticket has married th« stale by a
majority « lose to fi.oOO.
The republicans have eight' "
twenty

' On a seaII branch road In the state
a train coupling broke. Nothing eise
happened to be available, one of the
crew went into a cornfield, cut a sec-
tion of a stalk and It answered ad-
mirablh as a coupling pin until a sta-
tion was reacheu, where one of the reg*
ulatioil kind could be secured.
In Ottawa one of the leading sterrs
has a corn display in one of its show
windows. In i oe foreground appears
a.lone "nubbin" hearing the following
card: "This curiosity is caller! a
'nubbin" It is the only ono wo have
been able to find in eastern Kansas.
This specimen was secured In the su-
burbsi ofa Ottawa, from a stalk which
—Related re-J grew out of the mortar in a brick wall.
M " *" e 81 Its surroundings, and the facts that
the slalk was twice struck by lighten-
ing as it. towered above the building,
probably accounts for the dwarfed ap-
pearance of this ear."
As a matter of facl there Is no use
lying about the crop this year, because
the plain simple truth i staggering
enough. It has been a great, year for
corn in Kansas. The steady rains
thrO Igbout the summer kept if grow-
ing In the finest kind of shape and tJte
ears are filled clear o;it. Io the ends.
Of course no one knows what the yield
will be; i>ut P Is considered absolutely
certain that it will exceed the record
of the state by many million bushels.
