When the visitors arrived thoy
were met at the station by Mayor C. G.
Jopea and the council, who after a
drive to the hotel, entertained the
Guthrie people at lunch Following
mas a drive about the city, where all
the many Improvements were Import-
ed, among them beln* the asphalt
pavement. The Inspection of this was
the prime object of the Guthrie coun-
cil's visit nt this time tut they desire
to ascertain the paving qualities of
both brick and asphalt. Oklahoma
City has very many Improvements
which were greatly admired by the
visitors
Arriving at llelmar's garden, there
was an Impromptu program pulied
of for the amunement of all present,
partaking largely of foot raring In
a hundred yards go-as-pou-please be-
tween the fire chiefs of the two t itles
Keasler of Guthrie won by a neck,
the 50 yard dash between Frank Greer
and Roy Stafford was a draw: Mayor
Ball distanced Mayor Jones by eigh-
teen Inches at GO yards, councilman
Bwatek beat ex-Governor Barnes in a
60 yard dash; the race between, the
presidents of *! . two councils was won
by Green of G" hrl\ who nefc.ued
Ed L. Dunn of Oklahoma Cltv; Staf-
ford won a handicap of 75 y mis from
Niblack: Dine Johnson, the water
commissioner, won a 5<> yard dash
from H C. Barney of Guthrie. Council-
man Hlur.e won the same distance from
f B. Ullle; but Chief of Folic.' Ilep-
nolds brought up the Guthrie average
itv defeating Chief of Police Andy
Blnns In a 50 yard hurdle.
In the evening the Guthrie visitors
were entertained with an elaborate
banquet at the Illinois hotel, the ad-
dreoH of welcome being delivered by
Mayor Jones, with Mayor Ball respond-
ing Other addresses were made by
Aldermen Dunn nnd McCartney. F. S.
Barde of the Star. Roy Stafford of the
Oklahotnan. Greer of the State Capital.

The oc casion was a jolly one In every
fespect. ami after it was over the
Visitors were taken to the opera house
where thev witnessed a production by
the Hoyt Comedy company. The
