er unexpected to the sellers the ling mar-
ket opened a good strong nleket higher
than the clos last night on all grades
Some of tho best hogs brought ten cents
higher. Tho receipts were not large and
all the buyers wanted hogs. The av-
rage of the quality of hogs today was
hardly up to the two days past, though
thorn were some very good hogs among
the offerings. v

CHICAGO, AUGUST 1.—WHEAT—Was
Irregularly higher today. Firm and high-
er foreign markets caused a slight open-
ing advance, September starting at 7a@Vfce
and advanced to %c over yesterday
close and moderate buying lifted the
September price to 75'^c. August wheat
deliveries were unexpectedly large,
eome estimates placing them as high as
2,000.000 bushels and there was considera-
ble selling by room traders on tills ac-
count, the September price reacting to
75c. Later, however, the. posting of the
California crop advices reducing materi-
ally the, estimates of tha crep of that
state on acount of disappointing thresh-
ing returns, resulted in an increased de-
mand, tho market rallying
Trading late r became quite limited with
price changes- narrow. Northweet
oeipts were 236 cars, against 251 last we k
and 237 a year ago. Chicago receipts 237
cars, 42 of contract grade.
Up to the last forty-five minutes trad-
ing the market continued very quiet but
steady. Late in tho session the market
became very Arm on the good cash in-
quiry and the fact that at some outside

Sidney Carter, aged fourteen years, was
the second son of Mr. and Mrs. N. M.
Carter, who reside at the corner of Man-
sur avenue nnd Broad street. At an ear-
ly hour, yesterdiy morning, in company
with Harold Isensclimidt and Edwin
Olsmith, two boy companions, young
Carter left home with hi- rifle to spend
the day hunting in the country. Isen-
sclimidt furnished the boat and the trio
of young hunters were floating down the
Cottonwood river, bound for its mouth at
th< Cimarron, when the accident occur-
