more than ordinarily mysterious mur- |
der of a woman. Only two pieces
the body, wrapped in a newspaper,
have been found, the left thigh from
the knet- to the waist and the waist
from thighs to tho bust. From these
pieces, science has been called to as-
sist in ferreting the identity of th«
woman.
In natural history, science has b en
able. In many respects to reconstruct
the past animal history by mere frag-
ments found In-geologic strata. An el-
ephant's tooth found on Pike's Peak,
portions of a camel in Western Kan-
sas, a* well as some mammoth i one.s
of fish, tips of a bat's wing, show- <1
these sections to have been once both
tropical and vast oceans. From a sr .i t
fragment of a bone, geologists have
been able to reconstruct the whflo an-
imal. But in the case of this woman,
science has gone much further. Th.
doctors have concluded that the vic-
tim was a woman probably thirty-five
years old, tall and of beautiful form,
with fair complexion and brown hair.

Roberts, called together
! one hundred and fifty prominent ladies
of Ne w York. One of these ladies of
j wraith in addressing the meeting, said:

their affairs. I rarely ask my husband
I to do anything, lit? Is already overbru-
ilcned. The in-oral question must be
|consedered by women und one of those
war, ! questions is Mormonlsm. Who would
have said that a little church started
near Palmyra in this state in 1830,
would In 1899 hold the balance of pol-
itical power In s- ven states and terri-
tories and its votaries be prophesying
that people now living would sot It
hold the balance of power in every
state in the union? There are 1,700
missionaries of that church working
in this country . The Mormon Church
is a church of lies. To lie. Is a part of
their religion. The missionares are
cultured, agreeable gentlemen. They do
not say they are Mormons or polygam-
sts. But in the church are three orders
of exaltation, the teles'tiai—whatever
that word may mean; the terrestrial
and the celestial. The celestial order
is the order of Enoch and of plural
marriages and all the saints are urg
cd to reach It, that they may walk with
God like Enoch. The Mormons say they
believe in God the Holy Ghost. They
believe God the Father, a man, like th*
men of earth, who came to earth to
please one of his wives, earth's popu-
lation resulting; that God, the Son,
was a polygamist. Mary and Martha
being his wives; and that God the Holy
Ghost is a lively spirit like the ordinary
man's spirit, standing by the Son as
j .t man stands by his 'friend on earth.
; Mormonlsm is far more debasing than I
Mohammedanism and its converts in
this country in 1897 exceeded the con-
verts of the Congregational, Presbyter-
ian and Baptist churches combined."
This shows a grasp and ability to
size up public condition that if a less
fortunate woman possessed i-t ,she
would immediately be called out in the
hustlings. But these ladies will not
do that. They intend to so organize
the women of the country that con-
gress cannot ignore them. It will be
the power of the popular opinion of
women that will catch the-m home
