FREIGHT WRECK.
Seven Loaded Freight Cars
Piled Up in a Ileap—No
One Injured—Bad Track
Gives Way.
The Wewoka public who have recent-
ly had frequent occasion to observe the
reckles rate of speed of the passing
through freights over this section of the
Rock Island road, have repeatedly pre-
dicted that there would, be serious wrecks
unless the road was put in better condi-
tion.
Last Sunday morning the through
eastbound freight due to pass here be-
tween one and two o'clock, quit the
track at a point about five miles west of
here and sustained the serious wrecking
of seven freight cars. None of the crew
were injured. It is reported that after
the wreck several bums were seen to
spill out of the empties, and fortunately
or unfortunately were not caught, in the
smasbup. The head section of the train
was brought to Wewoka and sidetracked
aDd the passenger trafic had to be trans-
ferred, after considerable delay at the
scene of the wreck.
Knowing the general unsafe condition
of the road—its light steel, decayed ties
and inadequate section forces along this
part of the line, nobody is surprised to
hear of a wreck at any time.
A horse trader was arraigned in police
court at Guthrie the other day for as-
saulting a stranger. The judge asked
him why he struck the man. and he said:
"It's jest this way, jedge. That guy's
from Arkansaw, an' what do you 'spose
he did? He hadn't more'n hit this terri-
tory until he comes out of the bresh an'
walks right into town where pecple live.
He's too fresh, that's all.

The evidence gathered at a thousand
deathbeds bears out the belief that there
is no fear in the hearts of those who are
about to die. The dying never shed
tears, nor is their demeanor sorrowing.
The grief is for those who are left behind.
He who makes the best of his opportu-
nities in the eternal now . need have no
