As this is the season when the mirii
dreaded pnison ivy gets in its work, the
following suggestions may prove valu-

The drillers have penetrated the gas
ind in well No 2 on the Moore place
and struck a flow tbat is fully equal
to Mi# other well9, if not stronger. It
■> cow an evident fact that an abund-
<nce of gas will be secured to supply
Lawton with all tbe gas she can possi-
y use for domestic, lighting, heating
and manufacturing purposes.
This w'ill prove a wonderful boon to
Lawton, as under tbe franchise gas will
be furnished for ligbtiog, heating and
domestic purposes at the rate of twenty
live cents per thousand cubic feet
This is equal in cost to good coal at
three dollars per toD, such coal aB th*
people of Lawton nave been paying
eight dollars per ton for, hence the ad-
vantage of twenty-five cent gas will be
readily perceived by those who have had
to foot the coal bills.
Tbe oil is no small item either.
With oil burners under the boilers at
the city waterworks plant, tne saving
to the city on the cost of coal would be
quite an item, and as the council has
discussed '.hie proposition on several
occasions it is not at all unlikely that
t will be given a trial test at least.

Andrews Was Correct.
At the meeting of the Chamber of
Commerce last night some parties took
exceptions to the enumeration of thecen-
sus of the city as made by city Assesor
Andrews. One gentleman stated that
where he and several other gentlemen
roomed, the assessor did not take tbe
census. Mr Andrews was present at
the meeting and claimed that he did
take the enumeration at that place.
This morning Mr Andrews called at
thi- ollice and had with him his books,
>howing that on the 8th day of March
he took the census at the house referred
to, which were sworn to by the lady of
tbe house at tbe time, he also having
tier affidavit. This statement is made
to exonerate City Assessor Andrews of
tbe charge tbat he had beet direlect in
bis duty along that line.
