San Francisco, net. -The steamer
Colon, which arrived to-day from Sau
Salvador, reported that Silveroa Lewis,
who had written a history of the
country an I was about to take passage
on the Colon for San Francisco to have
it published, was found dead the day
the vessel sailed with a dagger in his
heart. Some parts of the history did
not speak favorably < f the E/.eta gov-
ernment. No trace of the manuscript
could be found and it is thought Lewis
had been murdered to prevent the pub-
lication of the history.
Gen. Fernand Figero, a wealthy
planter, was found murdered in his
country residence. The house had
been ransacked as though the murder
had been the work of robbers, but
there is a rumor that his death was for
political reasons.
M. Tortola, coachman for Gen. Ilar-
rillos when the latter was president of
Guatemala, when Barrillos was de- ... . •
posed lost his reason and was sent here | any other municipal officer to contract
for treatment. Last week he left for
Guatemala with his wife apparently
cured. Soon after leaving San Fran-
cisco, however, he again became in-
sane. and on the seventh day out
grasped his wife in his arms and
jumped overboard. A boat was prompt-
ly lowered und soon the couple were
on board, not much the worse for their
plunge.

S We demand a high protective
tariff on foreign silver bullion and the
free coinage of the American silver
product, that the currency may be
substantially expended commensurate
with the needs of the people.
6. We declare that all foreign crim-
inals, paupers and undesirable ele-
ments should be prohibited from our
chores, and that labor of America may
be preserved for Americans, and that
the socialistic, anarchistic and com-
munistic theories of Europe may not
be transplanted to this country to
undermine our institutions and f reat-
cn our peace and good order.
7. declare that the democratic

territories being sp>rsely settled and
overwhelmed with debt, and being
peopled largely with foreigners who

Oklahoma for statehood with its 'J-
ooo people truly American and $IC0,*
.(it),000 of taxable property, to be par-
tisan, narrow and unjust, a fitting
evidence of the methods of the demo-
t rnli'* party. VNe demand immediate
statehood in the quickest possible way.
M We denounce the pension policy
of the democratic party as being un-
just and unpatriotic and we congratu-
late tin4 people of the United States
in having risen ir. their indignation,
compelling Hoke Smith to withdraw
hi ruling whereby thousands of hon-
est pensioners were declared criminals
without tr'als and unceremoniously
suspended from the pension roll.
We condemn the action of the
county c mmissioners in plunging Lo-
gan county into debt beyond the 1 per
cent limit fixed by the act of congrrss,
as a crime against the people of the
county and we demand that it shall
bo made felony for any board of county
commissioners, or any county elek or
excess of his salary a felony.
It is the duty of every patriotic
citizen by voice and vote t > advocate
the retirement of public officer-., is re-
spective of party, who have prostituted
the trust reposed in them f->r purposes
of gain, and that we demand the vig-
orous prosecution of every officer, if
any there be, who lias taken advantage
of his position to pilfer from the public.
19. We favor a general revision of
our statutes for the purpose of reduc-
ing expenditures and taxation, and
that the laws be so formed as to limit
the power of public officers to incur
public expense for the taxpayers to
pay to a reasonable amount and that
the provisions of the criminal code be
made so strict that there is no escape
for the public official who proves re-
creant to the trust reposed in him. and
we urge immediate action thereon by
the next legislature lest bv some mis-
hap we again fall under a demo-pop
administration, such as has been spend-
ing the money of the people in Logan
county.
20. We arraign the democratic party
for its repeal of the federal election
law, leaving the people of New York
helpless from the frauds of Tammany
and the ballot iu Chicago and other
large cities, as well as .'1,000,000 voteis
of the south, without protection from
the frauds, intimidation and outrages
boldly pacticed by the demoeratlo
party in order perpetuate itself iu
minority rule.
21. We refer with admiration to the
splendid record made by Hon. Dennis
Flynn as delegate in congress, the sev-
enteen measures passed through con-
gress by his introduction effort and
example, his energy and inlluence
He has more than fulfilled the most
sanguine expectations of those who
championed his candidacy two years
ago. His labors have been for the in-
terests of all the people of Oklahoma,
regardless of location or party pro-
clivities. His record is one which de-
serves and we believe will receive the
endorsement of every voter who has
at heart the true welfare of this ter-
ritory.
