* Thf.uk are as many people in the
territory that believe Hill Dal ton alive i
as dead. He was too far decomposed
for recognition by the time any but j
interested parties saw him. He may I
be a "dead swell guy" in a living form

labor. If it is found out that the so-
called capitalist is not entirely to
blaine, then the longer the conflict be-
tween labor and capital is kept up the
more unnecessary distress is brought
on In a general depression, for which 1
no one is to blame, but which in the j
natural reaction of a preceding expan-
sion of trade, or which is brought on
by the combined markets of the world,
f.ir which this country is not entiiely
responsible, the employee as well as
the employer of lab >r should have a
mutual understanding and title over
the period.
The present trouble is largely a
matter of sentiment. Capital has tried
to coerce labor and labor has intimi-
dated capital until they are both in a
bail condition. The democratic at-
tempt at legislation has destroyed con-
fidence, A general discontent has
arisen in which many dishonest ele-
ments are mixed. Men who are in
want through their own faults now
have a chance to foist themselves on
the organization laborers that have
just cause for complaint. These
never having had anything to lose,
ruin the utility of such organizations
by making violent demands and dissen-
sions among the orders.
If the labor of this country would
organize honestly and keep scrupu-
lously within reason it could carry out
almost any demand that was best for
the general prosperity of the country,
which means itself, for it is 8(1 per
cent of the population.
