here and there la not a man or a woman in the city who
can escape the responsibility in part.
A mass meeting is to be held at the Baptist church on to-
morrow (Sunday) evening, plans are to be devised and a
movement started to make Lawton a better city In which to
live.
The sheriff, the county attorney, the mayor and chief of
police have already begun action by arresting a number of
unfortunate women and men and throwing them into jail
Mayor Jones has offered a reward of one hundred dollars
for the capture of any man dead or alive caught in the hold
up business.
But the root of the evil has not been reached The men
who profit b ythe depravity of women and who conduct-
dens where their brothers are relieved of their m* ney and
driven to desperation have rot been appreciated You
must get them in the hands of the law or drive them from
the city in order to eradicate the evil.
The man who makes a two bit piece by carrying a bottle
of rotten whiskey in his boot leg Is not the worst effender
against the law.
The poor fellow who looses his weeks wages at the gam-
ing table and must go home to his wife and children empty
handed is more to be pitied that condemned. But if he I*
drhen to demand another man'* money at the point of i
guu a reward Is placed upon hi* head. While the keeper of
the gaming house is an honored member of society and the
fellow who assisted by setting In as a "sweater" or a "cap-
per" may be elevated to position of honor and
trust.
The "man of Galilee" said to the woman guilty of the
charge against the unfortunate woman in the county jail
"go and sin no more ". Do you suppose for a minute that h«'
would have treated with the same kindly consideration, a
man who had profited by her shame, who had rented his
premises for a den of vice.
It Is to be hoped that the splendid movement to be ad-
vanced by the minister's alliance and the Civic Federation
will result In driving from the city the men who capitalize
and make money out of the three kindred vices, bootlegging
gambling and prostitution.

Oklahoma's farm land produced in excess of $7G per
capita In the year just past. That is *o say. from the eoll
alone, the farmers of the state produced crops having an |
aggregate value of $114,370,000.
T he report of the state board of agriculture, just made
public, shows that Oklahoma is up to her old tricks in the
production of agricultural wealth. From 21.000.000 acres of
farm lands we have harvested and marketed farm pro-
ducts having an average value approximating $5.50 per
acre.
These figures represent agricultural products only. Thej

Oklahoma owes about all that it is to her agricultural
wealth. Year by year for almost two decades we have been
opening up additional farms, tilling additional acreage, and
producing more of every"crop
with a single exception. In | "here we roitie In. Nothing in life will lie more appreciated or prove of mow

Child-like sympllcity is certainly characteristic of the
Hobart Chamber of Commerce. They recently sent a dele-
gation down to Snyder to get that town to call ofT the new
county movement. They should join the Lawton organiza-
tion in a propoganda with the taxpayers who are to foot
the new counties bills. Those town lot boosters at Snyder
are going to make a county seat of that hamlet if there Is
anv way in the world to do it.
In th? selection of presents for the poor of the city, es-
pecially for the children, the Constitution-Democrat would
urge upon those having chartiable Christmas work in hand
to give "worthless'' presents—not worthless in the sense o:'
being "cast off." but something that they can enjoy, not use.
Give your useful presents lo the members of the family
who can buy and have bought for them toys aud trinkets all
through the year. But to those who must necessarily spend
every cent available for things of every day use. the most
enoyable present i*osslble Is something for which they can
never feel able to release money. Your work will be much
more appreciated and the children receiving your "worth-
less" presents will remember with kindly feeling, during
the whole year, the last visit of Santa Clans.

abundance and profit that the acreage was largely given
over to that staple. In recent years, our farmers have found
wheat less profitable than other crops. In consequence,
many of them have turned from wheat production to other
lines and are profiting extensively thereby.
Both the yield and value of farm production for the past
year are. on the whole, highly gratifying. For the same area
tilled the record is one which cannot be either equalled or
excelled In any part of the nation —Oklahoman.
