the Ardmore city authorities. The

The latest press bulletin of the
Oklahoma agricultural experiment
station says: The experiment sta
tioti has conducted an inquiry con-
cerning the cotton crrp in parts of
Noble, Lincoln, Logan and Payne
counties. Eighty farmers in theae
counties were interviewed,and the
results of their experienced and ob-
serAatiou of this crop have beeii
summarized. Ten per cent of this
number regarded the growing of
cotton as unprofitable. The aver-
age area devoted to cotton was
fifteen acres, and the yields during
the fall of 1899 varied from 500 to
800 pounds of seed cotton per acre.
This cotton was sold for $1.I>0 to
$2 20 per hundred pounds, with an
estimated profit of from $.) to $1(1
per acre. The yields this yeat were
about two-thirdB of what was
seemed in 1898, but the difference
in price made the profit per acre
about the same. Many farmers re
pard the crop as one which is de-
sirable to provide work that the
children can do, but deplore the
fact that cotton picking frequently
keeps children out of school.

was a favorite torture ill the
old days to fasten the victim

A'omen do not, as a rule,
realize how the steady J
drains which sometimes '
afflict them must at last re-act 011 the
mind. Sometimes, it is only fretfulness,
irritability or peevishness. At other
times the condition passes beyond un-
reasonableness to irrationality.
With the relief of tile body, from dis-
ease, 1)t. Pierce's Favorite Prescription
gives also a cheerful mind and contented
spirit. When the drains and pains are
stopped the mind soars up like a balloon
from which dead weight has been cast
out. Mothers who never knew a happy
moment when the birth hour confronted
them, and younger women doomed each
month to a period of mental depression
as well as phvsical suffering, have found
a perfect cure by the use of " Favorite

neither opium cocaine or other form of
