SANTA CLAUS
One of the finest things ever
written about Christmas was the
editorial printed 20 years ago by
the New York Sun in answer to
the earnest appeal of a little New
York girl to be told whether San-
ta Claus really exists. Its author
Frank P. Church, was an accom-
plished journalist and wrote'much
on many subjects, but his fame ,
will rest chiefly on this beautiful
setting forth of an eternal truth.
With Dr. Clement Clarke Moore's 1
"A visit From St. Nicholas," it is
one of the great classics of the
Christmas season.
The answer to the eternal ques-:
tion as printed in the Sun follows:!
"We take pleasure in answering
at once, and thus prominently,
the communication b low, expres-
sing at the same time our great'
gratification that its faithful au-
thor is numbered among the i
friends of the Sun:
" 'Dear Editor—I am eight j
years old. Some of my friends say
there is no Santa Ciaus. Papa says ■
If you see it in the Sun it's so. j
Please tell me the truth; is there!

About
Gone
Many thousands of
women suffering from
womanly trouble, have
been benefited by the use
of Cardui, the woman's
tonic, According to letters
we receive, similar to this
one from Mrs. Z.V. Spell,
of Hayne, N. C. "I could
not stand on my feet, and
just suffered terribly,"
she says. "As my suf-
fering was so great, and
he had tried other reme-
dies, Dr. had us
get Cardui. , . I began
improving, and it cured
me. 1 know, and my
doctor knows, what Car-
dui did for me, for my
nerves and health were
about gone."

She writes further: "1
am in splendid health ...
can do my work. I feel I
owe it to Cardui, for I was
in dreadful condition."
If you arc nervous, run-
down and weak, or suffer
from headache, backache,
etc., every month, try
Cardui. Thousands of
women praise this medi-
cine for the good it has
done then, and many
physicians who have used
Cardui successfully with
their women patients, for
years, endorse this medi-
cine. Think what it means
to be in splendid health,
like Mrs. Spell. Give
Cardui a trial.

j "Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa
!Claus. He exists as certainly as

iexists, and you know that they

'highest beauty and joy. Alas!
How dreary would be the world if
there were no Santa Claus! It
| would be as dreary as if there
'were no Virginias. There would
be no childlike faith then, no po-
etry, no romance, to make toler-
able this existence. We should
have no enjoyment except in sense
and sight. The eternal light with
which childhood fills the world
would be extinguished.
"Not believe in Santa Claus!
You might as well not believe in
fairies! You might get your papa
to hire men to watch in all the
chimneys on Christmas eve to
catch Santa Claus, but even if
they did not see Santa Claus com-
ing down, what would that prove?
Nobody sees Santa Claus, but that
is no sign that there is no Santa
Claus. The most real things in
world are those that neither chil-
dren nor men can see. Did you
ever see fairies dancing on the
lawn? Of course not; but that's no H
proof that they are not there. No-
body can convince or imagine all
