Fire in Norman-
Last Saturday night a stnall resi-
dence near the East Side school
building belonging to Scott Prince
caught lire about midnight and the
whole roof was a mass of llatne before
any one discovered it When the de-
partment reached the lire it was so
hot that the water from the hose noz-
zle was converted into steam before
it reached timbers in the building.
The house was occupied by a shoe
drummer and family and they were
in bed and knew nothing of the lire
until neighbors rushed into the house
and they were fortunate In getting
the family out of the house. The
house and nearly all of the contents
were lost including about $000 worth
of shoe samples. The building and
contents were partially covered by
insurance. Yesterday men ing the
department also made a run to a lire
in W. T. Maylields home and fire wa-
put out before much detnage resulted
HERE'S A DEMOCRATIC PLATFORM
No Praise, No Criticism for Mr. Cleve-
land or Mr. Bryan.
Washington, March 27.—After all
the speeches at the banquet of the
Yirginia Democratic association had
been concluded some twenty mem-
bers of the association and guests
of the association remained to talk
about Henry Watterson's speech
and the prospects of the party of
Jefferson eyer getting on its feet
again. The informal discussion took
a wide range and everybody was in
too good a humor to differ from any-
body else. It was finally decided
that a committee of three should
draft a set of resolutions which
would express the sentiments that
had been expressed. The committee
held a short conference and present-
ed the following:
Hi solved, That any Democrat who
j praises Cleveland, criticises Cleve-
' land or discusses Cleveland, is a
blank fool.
Be solved, That any Democrat who
praises Mryan, criticises Bryan, dis-
cusses Bryan, is a blank fool
Resolved, That any Democrat who
mentions the money question is a
blank fool.
To the above resolutions another
might be added without injury to
platform, but rather in conformity
to it,
I{esolveil, That any democrat who
would hesitate, because of anything
appearing in ii democratic platform,
to vote the ticket straight is a blank
■ fool.
