Katklns lint Prraence of Mind and ft
Nftl|(libor'a Hoy Save* Two
Flghtrnrd Women.
There liad been three burglaries in
the neighborhood and in that fact is
an explanation of why these two
young women, the sole occupants of
the house during the absence of tha
father and mother, occupied the little
back room upstairs, says the Detroit
Free l*ress.
They bolted and locked from the
cellar to the attic. As conclusive in
the matter of barricading' they ran
the bureau across the doorway to the
bed chamber and then used a clothes
liue in tying the knot to the leg of
the bed. Their conversation dwelt
for a time upon burglars and then
upon the wild animals they had seen
in the afternoon at the island, tlie
wild cat receiving a larger portion
of their commentaries. Then they
whispered assurances to each other
that there was nothing to fear, and
finally went to sleep.
About 2:30 a.m. there was a rapid
tire of the loudest, most piercing
screech*** ever heard in that neigh-
borhood, unless during the period
of Indian occupancy.
"It's tlie wild cat," shouted one, as
she got a strangle hold on the oilier
and made *-ure that she cii«l not es-

/V\ILLINERY AT COST
m m j*s. Parker has decided to closeout her millinery
/Wlbusiness in Stillwater and for that purpose will
' lsell all fall and winter goods at about the cost of
production. Ladies contemplating the purchase of any-
hing in the millinery line can save money by calling on
Mrs. Parker during the month of December.
In order to encourage buying, in addition to selling
goods cheaper than they were ever sold in Stillwater,
Mrs. Parker will give away to the lucky customer a fine
silver tea service. Further information in regard to this
will be furnished at her store where the tea service can
be seen.

General Funstou is coming
home for Christmas. We should
like to hear his daddy, Foghorn
Funston, greet his boy at the front
gate. Well, if the air is still may-
be by putting our ear to the
ground we ttiav hear the rumble of
his voice if we cannot distinguish
the words.—Knid Wave.

the abuse of the postal laws
which premitted the paperbacked
novels to circulate as "periodicals

cause it gave wider circulation to
works of standard authors, but the
character of the paper backed

of an excuse for the perversion of

My horse had hardly come to a
stop when the eagle, apparently ob-
livious of my presence, swooped
fiercely down upon its prey. The

slaught. Straight as a falling shell
the great bird pounced down. It was
almost cm the rabbit and seemed to
seize him, when suddenly the long
ears unfolded uiul 11 streak of gray

was a tremendous leap live feet at
