Nature's suggestions in regard t-o
food must be heeded. A simple, ea.s.
ily digested diet should be the rule.
o sa.y that the aged require less
food 11111 n at former periods would
be unnecessary, only that a dimin-
ished appetite in old persons is some-
times regarded by them 11s a serious
symptom, and one to be struirirled
ogainst. s
NTot infrequently it is found advan-
tageous in later life to take food in
*mnll amounts and at short inter-
vals. It will be observed, also, that a
lowered vitality calls for slet,„
OS a means of preserving the bright-
er qualities of the mind.
While "envy en res are properly
•shifted from the shoulders of tha
■aged, it must be remembered that in-
erest 111 life is largely maintained bv
virtue a Helpful attitude toward
others, and to insist that the aired
(member of the household shall do
nothing is a mistaken kindness.
While the amount of work which
may be done is curtailed bv advanced
flge, instances are not lacking to
show that the quality of mental labor
performed is not necessarily lowered.

A discussion ot the race question
at Ardmore, Monday, resulted in
one of the participants being shot
in the back. And the probabilities
are that the problem is 110 nearer
solved than before.
Oklahoma has no business with
remaining an agricultural commu-
nity pure and simple. It has all
he natural resources which go to
make "diversified industries."
And if the people will let the pro-
tective tariff alone long enough,
Oklahoma will have her share of
the mills, factories, foundries and
shops.

Infancy and old age are frequently
referred to as analogous states, in
point of fact they are much mora
nearly opposite*. Infancy is the ex.
^tiding rapidly developing period.
.While Old age is a time when the Us-
*ue.s shrink, as it were, to accoinmo-
date the lessening vital forces. It
cannot be said that all persons reach
old age ot 70. although by this time
ie majority of people find it neces.
' j"#ry to curtail their activities, says
.lout/1 s Companion.
, The fcignahs which indicate a need
for lightening the load upon the vital
loices as old nge comes on are usu-
ally unmistakable. There is a de-
creased capacity for work. Thai

Well. no. The winner said that

warded. and he returned mv money.
Id have been all right only when I
got back to Chicago I put $900,000 with
it and bet the whole pile on a h&rse
race and Inst by a n6se. That re-
3'iiced my fortune to less than $4,000-
#00, and so I had to take „p this
business to eke out my income. Of
course, it's a sad case, and I feel mr

ance and integrity I hope to pull
