Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Riner returned
from their trip to Kansas Saturday.
Mrs. Emery Foster and children return-
ed the first of the week from Guthrie.

book keeper of the Chandler Cotton Oil mill
made vacant by Orin Ashton's resignation.
Mr. Sands is a capable clerk and will doubt-
less fill the position acceptably.

six week's trip to California and Colorado

Jim Murray returned from a weeks so-
journ at Mounds, I. T., where he has been
erecting a cotton gin for the Chandler Cot-
ton Oil Co.
F. N. Clute was brought down from
Stroud Tuesday by Deputy Sheriff Whit-
more, charged by Mary Barber with crimi-
nal assault.
A. A. Bass is enjoying a visit this week
from his sisters, Mrs. Smith,*Mrs. Bentleyi
Miss Bass and Miss Bevie Bass, of Gaines-
ville, Texas.
Rev. John Hartley, the new rector of the
St. Stephen's church, will preach his first
sermon in Chandler next Sunday. Every-
body invited.
The school board is going to issue a
course of study of the Chandler schools
which will be a great convenience to teach-
ers and students.

Tom Garner and his daughter, Charity,
returned Monday from the new country
where they had been to enable Miss Garner
to file on the claim drawn by her in the big
lottery.
I The Log-Rolling Association has secured
the Norman and Tonkawa bands for the
1 Woodmen's Log-Rolling. The commercial
club has donated fifty dollars to the enter-
tainment fund.
Mr. and Mrs. John Embry left Sunday
for Mangum and other western points
where Mr. Embry goes as a member of the
new committee for the location of the
Southwestern Normal.

Rev. Wardner left Monday for a short
visit with his parents in Kansas City, Mo.
There will be no preaching services at the
Presbyterian church Sunday. He will re-
turn in time for service Sunday, Sept. 1st.
Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Baird went to Okla-
homa City Tuesday, Mrs. Baird with in'en-
tion of going on to Colorado. She was ad-
vised there that the trip west would be in-
jurioas to her eyes, hence she returned to
Chandler today.
"Punch" Walker, colored, was brought
from Stroud yesterday under charge of fel-
ony. It is said that Walker drew a gun on
his wife during a domestic difficulty and
when Marshal Hembrow went to arrest him
he drew a gun on the marshal also.
Holdups. *
B. F. Hardcastle astonished the nation
and all creation last Friday morning by the
announcement that he had been held up
the previous evening about 8:30 and robbed
by a colored'man and woman of one hun-
dred and fifty dollars. Rosa Epps and
Armstead Carroll were arrested during the
day charged with the robbery. The prelim-
ary is being held before Probate Judge
Cordell today. Twenty-seven witnesses
have been summoned. On the evening fol-
lowing the.Hardcastle holdup, J. W. Dillion
the Shawnee stage-driver, was held up near
Speer's wagon-yard and relieved of a pock-
et-book and five dollars. Dave Long, a
colored man, was arrested for this theft
while in the act of burning a pocket-book
which contained lodge receipts bearing
Dillion's name.

two and one-half miles east of the Frisco
depot at Chandler, on Wednesday, August
28th. the following property: 17 head milch
cows, 6 head two year old heifers, 10 head
calves, 2 good bulls, 7 head mules, 1 mare
pony, 11 head hogs, farming implements
and other articles. Terms, 14 months at
10 per cent jer annum, ar 8 per cent dis-
count for cash, and all sums of $5 and un-
der cash. Free lunch will be served.
