Dear Sir:—In reply to your let-
ter of the 26th will say that we
have never made any test*
whatever of gypsum for road
building purposes. If you have
a good supply of gravel and sand
to u»e with your gypsum it would
be possible to make a good road
building material with a moder-
ate outlay of money. This work
would necessitate several prelim
inary tests in the way of experi
mental roads before it could be
fully determined just how efti-.
cient they might prove. If you
will write me again in about two
weeks stating where these de-
posits are aud the likelihood of
your being able to secure gravel
and saud to use in the building
of roads I will investigate the
matter further and write you
more in detail.
In regard to the green bug will
say that we have heard com
plaints from several sections of
the territory about green bugs
but we have never yet been able
to secure a specimen of the green
bug that did tbu damage. 1
would certainly appreciate it if
you would take Lite trouble to
send us a sample of tbe bug that
is damaging your wheat. There
are several species of lice that
resemble the green bug closely
but none of. them attack wheat
so far as we know. It is not ac-
cording to the nature of the in-
sects to be present at this time
of tiie year and I can scarcely
believe that you ha ’e them pres-
ent. I would not ad vise farmers
to discontinue the growing of
wheat on account cf tj?e green
bugs.
Faithfully yours,
W. L English, Director.
