Mexico Ready lor Peace
After careful investigation the
governors of Texas, New Mexico
and Arizona favor recognition by
the United States of the present
g ivernmentof Mexico. They say
thst country is no longer tor-
mented with armed rebellion
and the peace sentiment over
there is strong with all the peo-
ple. The subject is now under
consideration at Washington
with prospects bright for early
settlement, looking to lasting
peace.
The Pesqueira, representing
the Mexican government, savs
in a letter to Secretary Colby:
“Dear Mr. Secretary:
‘While theinfoimal and frank
conversations 1 have had with
Mr. Norman Davis, the under-
secretary of state, have resulted
in a cordial and thorough under-
standing, I beg the liberty of
putting on paper the exact posi-
tion and definite desires of my
government.
“As you know, and as the
United States must see, it is
new Mexico that facts the world
in pride and confidence. From
border to border there is peace.

arms against the federal govern
merit, and a whole nation thinks

Mexico and the United States
Not only are we neighbors, but
every other conside;ation points
to the wisdom of an understand-

treaties and sinks its roots into
the heart of each nation. We
