Clem Deaver's Views.
As one of the most tireless work-
ers for mid-road Populism in the
recent campaign, the views of Hon.
D. Clem Deaver of Nebraska on
the present political situation will
undoubtedly interest all readers of
The I rfbune. 1'he following is
from an editorial in The True Popu-
list of Omaha, of which Mr. Deaver
is editor. He says of the St. Louis
conference:
" I he old guard of tr.ue reformers
eiever surrenders. It is neither dis-
mayed by repeated defeats nor dis-
iieanencu lly Ute acuuns ut Ualiois
within its ranks. It possesses in a
high degree that rare quality"of the
mind which Napoleon referred to
in the soldier as 2 o'clock in the
morning courage. In the darkest
hours its steadfastness and fidelity
•remains unshaken, and today amid
the wreck and ruin wrought by
fusion traitors it is once morerally-
.ng with earnestness and enthusiasm
at the trumpet call of Chairman Jo
A. Parker for a renewal of the
attack upon the triumphant forces
of organized capitalism.
"Not only will the industrial con-
ference to be held at St. Louis on
ihe 29th inst., ^e successful through
its attendance and far-reaching

"Much of the credit for the pre
servation of the reform movement
must be awarded to Chairman
Parker, who, in the face of villifica-
tion and abuse heaped upon him
by the Democratic hirelings of plu
tocracy, brought order out of fusion
chaos and preserved the temple of
populism undefiled by the vandal
hordes who sought to plunder it in
the interest of capitalisiic Croker
ized red shirtism.
"With such a leader in command
of as brave a political army as
ever enlisted in the fight for hu
inanity and with fusion dead for-
evermore, the reform movement will
grow as it never did before, and
in the not distant future, through
(he power of direct legislation, capi
talism will be overthrown and the
people will rule, and into the law of
the land will be incorporated the
declaration in the immortal Omaha
platform: 'Wealth belongs to him
who creates it, and every dollar
taken from industry without an
equivalent is robbery.' "

We give space in tljis issue to a
rather long and friendly criticism of
an article appearing in our issue of
December 14th by our socialist friend
Dr. Thurman of Durwood I. T. The
doctor's article is very good and
one to which no Peoples party man
could take serious objection. The
difference between the Peoples
party men and Socialists is not a
wide one, as to the end sought to be
attained. The chief difference lies
in the difference of opinions as to
how the end can best be attained
Our friend believes by cutting the
dogs tail off close behind the ears
is the propee method while we
believe this to be error. We believe
that we must grow into the socialist
