A new typewriter has been ordered
for the use of the Geological Survey
office.
A large crowd (greeted the Quaker
Quartet in the lirst number of the
lecture course.
"Oklahoma Building stone' pub-
lished in Stone, New York, and "1 he
Radiate Structure of the Wild Gourd'
in Plant World are the titles of two
articles recently published by C. N.
Gould.
The foot ball team has three names
scheduled: Saturday 17, with King-
fisher, Thanksgiving, probably at
Arkansas City. The 2C. will occur one
of the best games of the season, with
Kansas City Medics, on the Norman
ground.
The gymnasium is completed. Dr.
Upjohn is beginning to give t hysical
examinations. The apparatus is
ready for use. The room is litted up
with lockers for clothing. Hot and
cold shower baths may be had. Stu-
dents will wear a uniform, consisting
of shirt, regulation Y. M. C. A. trous-
ers, and athletic shoes.
The Faculty went on a "persimmon
picnic" last Saturday. Several
friends were invited. They gathered
persimmons, ate dinner, shot clay
pigeons and waited for the bus. Dr.
VanVleet and Prof. Parrington won
the honors in the shoot, but the score
was not handed in for publication.
The President's annual reception
occurred Thursday 15. 1 he C hapel
was appropriately decorated. The
Library, the Registrar s ollice, the
President's office were also thrown
open to the students and visitors.
After the formal reception by the
entire faculty the crowd tiled into the
Chapel where an entertainment was
given by the music department.
Afterwards a grand march was
formed and everybody met every-
body else.
A Letter from Borne.
Prof. Paxton writing from Rome,
Oct, 18th says; "we have had one
formal lecture from Professor Kelsey
and had planned an eight mile trip
out on the Appian way for to-day, but
rain prevented. Tomorrow rdin
or shine we shall enter the \ atican
in a body, and try to get a sort of
orientation of that vast treasure
house of art and learning. The gov-
ernment has already issued tickets
entitling members of the school to
free entry into all the great public
galleries, museums and excavations,
and I feel that this year must be
marked with a white pebble, to use
the Roman expression for a happy
