ANNOUNCEMENTS.
To the cltlz- nsof (.'lev land County.
At the continuous solicitation of many
friends and citizens of Cleveland county, 1 have
concluded to I i conic a candidalo lor Sherlll'
subject to the action oi the Democratic party,
and if tho choleo of tho party, will u.-e every
honorable meana in my power to be elected
Yours, M, 0. Ul'NYAN-
The Democratic city ticket is all
that could he desired and will re-
ceive the hearty support of every
democrat in Norman.
It is in order for the pop com-
missioners to explain why they is-
sued gold payment bonds, llav
they turned gol/1 bug?
Some of our hide walks are in a
dangerous eomlitioii and should re-
ceive the prompt attention of the
proper officers.
The harmony which exists in the
v Democratic ranks indicates that
they will make a clean sweep in
both eitv and countv.
If one "Tax l'ayer" make* onr
pop friends feel so bad, what will
they do when it corner to an ele-
ction ?
Remember that bv payment of
one dollar, you can get the Static
Democrat and Memphis Commer-
cial Appeal, for one vear.
We don't caro very much
who goes to the national Democrat-
ic convention; jmt so he is for the
free and unlimited ooniuge of sil-
ver.
All of our people are well acquain-
ted wiih the qualifications of the
Democratic nominees to be voted
for in the coming city election and
are well aware that they can bo
trusted.
There is no good reason why any
one win \* interested in Normans
prosperity, should not vote the
straight Democratic ticket, ft
would even make the pop* f,,('l bel-
ter.
The Ohio home of representa-
tives has passed a bill prohibiting
the wearing of high hats in opera
houses. Ohio is certainly making
progress.
It is impossible to conceive of a
more cowardly expression on the
silver question than that made by
the republican convention at Okla-
homa City If John Sherman had
written it would not have been
more satisfactory to the gold bugs
The many friends of Hon. J. 1>.
Maguire will regret that political
combinations were too strong for
him and prevented his going to St.
Louis ji- i deh-gaie. Mr. Maguire
would have been a credit to the ter-
ritory and his party.
Frank Stockton's new story,
"Mrs. Cliffs Yacht," which begins
in the April Cosmopolitan, prom-
ises to beone ol the most interest-
ing ever written by that fascinating
story teller. Headers of "The Ad-
ventures of Captain Horn" will find
in "Mrs. Cliff's Yacht" something
that they have been waiting for.
The friends of som« of the repub-
lican candidates arc claiming that
Me Kin ley is buying the presiden-
tial nomination with money which
is being collected from the protect-
ed manufacturers. Of coursethis
does not worry the McKinley men,
for the statement is undoubtedly
true.

Dyspepsia
Every democrat who is interest
ed in the success of the party in
Cleveland county, should subscribe
for the State Dkmocuat and ask
his neighbor to do the same.
The way that Quien of Shawnee
denounced the railroad combina-
tion in the republican convention
was enough to have made almost
any convention ashamed of itself
but did not have any appreciable
efleet on those who were there. A
few of them kicked but it was only
spasmodic and did not deter the
gang from carrying out their pro
gram.
At the meeting of Hoard ol Trade
on Tuesday night of last week it
was decided to change the name of
the organization and call it the
Commercial Club of Norman. It
is intended to make this organiza-
tion a success in every sense of the
word and all who are interested in
the advancement of our city are in-
vited to become members. Wo
feel that many of our people do not
appreciate the importance of such
itn organization or they would at-
tend more promptly than they do.
They should not forget, that such
an important matter as this, is de-
serving of the attention of every
citizen.

IIKRE AND TIIEKK.
It is remarkable how the republi-
cans of Oklahoma can howl for
free silver and then tear their
clothes to pieces for a gold bun
candidate.
We believe that Oklahoma is
now seeing the hardest times that
will ever be experienced and that
from this time on we will see better
times This is a certainty if we can
only keep the ealamatv howlers
quit.

county and those who ma';e promis

The County Central Committee.
There seems to be a misunder-
standing among some democrats a-
bout the election of a new county
central committee. The matter is
so unimportant that it hardly
seems that there could beany con-
troversy on the point. The present
committee was elected by the differ-
ent township delegations, at the
last county convention and their
term of office does not expire until
the primary election when new
committeemen will be elected to
serve two years as the present com-
mittee was. It has always been
custom of the central committee to
till the vacancies, until au election
could be had. We hope that this
matter will not cause any undue
discussion a.* the central committee
does not elect any body or keep
any one from being a candidate.
Tt.-e only committeeman who is a
candidate is Mr. K tiny an and he
will resign at the next meeting and
we cannot fee what advantage it
would bo to him if he did not re
sign. We do i.< t expect any ring
rule or dark methods from the pre-
sent central committee nor the one
to bo elected. Democrats have no
time to split hairs over such trivial
matters. Th y should IhMtiseas-
hinl? bow to redeem Cleveland coun-
ty from pop misrule. To have au
election now for committ"-nen and
another in a short time for candi-
dates would be to) much work for
busy people. In thib connection
let us remember that the more con-
tention raised in democratic ranks,
tin more pleasing it. will be to the
