The democrats of this city held
their city convention last Wednes-
day night and nominated their city
ticket. As all the candidates for
places on the ticket had been pre-
viously agreed upon in caucus the
only work of the convention was to
ratify the caucus nominees. Every
thing was done by acclamation and
harmony reigned supreme.
The editor of "hT State Capital
seems to think the election of Per
kins as Police Judge of the City of
Guthrie will have a good effect upon
the democrats of that city who have
been accustomed to figure in the po
lice court as "plain drunks." Greer
thinks that the thought of having a
fine assessed against them by a ne
gro will cause many of the demo
crats to quit the drink habit.
The editor has been wrestling with
"Grippe" this week; but how our
country correspondents knew any-
thing about it is more than we know.
Our county correspondents hook
was loaded down with copy and we
wrote very little editorial but turned
printers loose on correspondence;
but even then several excellent com-
munications were crowded out.
Don't get discouraged because your
article does not appear. We always
try to get in correspondence; but
sometimes we do not have the space.
Last Saturday a large crowd
gathered in the Opera House to lis-
ten to the address by Dr. Walker, of
Oklahoma City. The Doctor was
on hand; but was too sick to speak.
He made the attempt; but could not.
He said that it was the first time in
his life that he was unable to speak.
He kindly begged pardon of the au-
dience and assured them that at an
early date he would more than repay
for his failure. Several short speech-
es were made by member^ of the au-
dience and they all expressed them-
selves as feeling confident that the
Populists would carry the county
with a sweeping majority this fall.

it was decided to discuss the same
question at the next meeting of the as-

The debating society meets at

day night. The question for discus
sion next Tuesday night is: Re
solved, That the government should
own and operate the railroads in the
interest of the people."
It rained all day last Sunday and
turned off cold Sunday night. The
peach crop in the bottoms was
doubtless injured to some extent.
There will be preaching at South
Gale,.Sunday, April the 5th. Every-
body invited.

Baptist sermon last Sunday.
The gold excitement is still going
the rounds. There was a meeting at

purpose of organizing a company to
