FRIDAY, MAY 10 1895.
Local politicians now refer to
the county attorney as Tom Blue
Berry.
The people of Noi in an appear
to want the populists to "keep off
the grass" this year.
Running a free coinage paper
on a plate basis does not neces-
sarily make the editor a bi-metal-
list.
The cow tried hard to jump
over the moon, but the election
came too late and the moon got
too full for liar.
If there is anybody in Norman
praying for rain we feel con-
strained to remark tlmt the wrong
people are on their knees.
The new editor of the Okla-
homa Star. Mr. Bumgardner, ap-
pears to divide his affections be-
tween love of Flynn and admira-
tion for Jingoism.
Bill Cook, the outlaw is now
making shirts in the Albany pen-
itentiary. It is reasonable to
suppose that his iirst efforts will
require holding up.
The Oklahoma City Star'
present adulation of Dennis
Flynn must possess a charm for
that gentleman equal to reading
his own obituary notice.
Tlic CHjr Election.
The Topic is very well pleased
with the result of the city elec-
tion. There was but one real is-
sue before the people and that
was the selection of an enterpris-
ing set of business men as its
officials for the coming year. In
the candidates placed before the
voters more than ordinary care
had been taken to present the
very best men and there was but
little choice. Politics had very
little to do in the election of either
ticket and while an election over
such rivals was a high compli-
ment to the successful candidates,
dofeat on the other hand by, such
narrow margins could leave no
rctioctiou on the unsuccessful
ones. The defeated ticket had to
bear the brunt of any mistakes
the present administration may
have made. The present depre-
ciated price of city warrants and
the charge of populism were also
disadvantages under which the
latter ticket had to labor. The
re-electiou of Frank Smith as
marshal and J. D. Grigsby us
police judge, were deserved tri-
butes to faithful find conscientious
officers and for the rest of the
ticket our limited acquaintance
with the gentlemen warrant us in
the hope at least that the coming
city administration will be a care-
ful and business-like one, a credit
to themselves and a tribute to the
wise judgment of the voters who
elected them.
Gould, of the Downs Demo
crat, is a pronounced goldbug
and opposed to silver coinage at
ratio of lli to 1. ['here is some-
thing in a name after all.
Fisom his undoubted rank as a
professional holdup it is a mys -
tery why the Albany prison
authorities didn't put Bill Cook
in the suspender department.
The Dawes commission have en-
gaged quarters at the Adams, and
will convene in Muskogee on the
8th of tins month. The new com-
mission, it is understood, will be-
gin at the adjustment of town site
and kindred problems in the Ter-
ritory, and it is hoped that by the
time the next congress convenes
it will be able to report substantial
progress. The commission is made
stronger by the addition of the
new members, and the Indians
view it in a more friendly light,
as tho best avenue through which
the threatened change may come.
But the Indians are far from
favoring a change and if they
agree to a change with the Dawes
commission they will do so be-
cause they would regard it as tho

this city election or rather
some of the wails that went up
after the results was made known,
discloses the fact that there are a
great many alleged democrats in
Norman, who suffer untold agon-
ies at a populist defeat.
THE claim is now made that
"Slaughter Kid" and his asso-
ciate outlaw, Clias. Pierce were
assassinated by Bill Doolin or
some other member of the gang.

The editor of the Downs Dem-
ocrat has a cow and he is so proud
of her that he devotes a quarter
of a column of local notices to
her in his last issue. He ought,
to get a large amount of milk for
that much taffy if the cow is alive
to her duty.
Take the enemies that any
well conducted newspaper makes
in the course of business and
stand them in a row," says an
old Missouri judge, "and the bal-
ance of the community will say
the editor ought to be proud of
the enemies he lias made."-—Ex.
