The commencement of Lincoln coun-
ty's tnird anniversary atid reunion was
announced Friday morning by the re-
the oth uay oi | ports of anvils and guns. Flags and
bunting on every business building,
tents aud sLtuds on the sipiare, groups
on the streets and incoming vehicles
and horsemen from every direction,
further convinced Chandler that a live-
ly celebration was begun.
At 1:.'K) o'clock the Kepi|bliean-Cornet,
band called the people together at the
square. Comrade Underwood welcom-
ed the old soldiers iu behalf of Chand-
ler and O. A. Kelso responded for the
Union veterans and .J. W. Clark spoke
for the Confederates. Kqual loyalty to
the Union made the addresses of the
ex-Federal and ex-Confederates equal-
ly acceptable to the assembly. Music
by the baud enlivened the exercises
and every selection from "Marching
through Georgia,", to "Dixie'' was
thoroughly enjoyed.
J. C. I'ringey, Comrades Huribut,
Merrick, iieasler and others further
outertnincd the audience from the
stand while the candidates and their
friends contributed their share of elo-
quence on the side.
The VV. it. C. hud erected a tasteful
booth and did a rushing business both
uays, dispensing ice cream, fruit, and
confectionery iu a satisfactory and busi
ness like manner. Headquarters for
the comrades and their latuilies were
visited by many friends of tlie Chand-
ler i'ost and Corps.
Friday evening was passed at the time-
honored camp lire, where the veterans
recounted old adventures, jokes, and
struggles and invented new and thrill-
ing tales for each others' edification.
Others of the visitors attended t*e
band concert which was being held iu
the court house. The writer of these
chronicles hesitates to record the
night's revelry as it is related 'by the
participants. Hut Comrade Harvey's
lien roost was decimated aud a chick-
en roast iu the small hours, hints at
the s^ory.

He failed to tell of their court house

| robbery ever perpetrated in any coun-

! Lincoln county paid $1,H00 for a court
I house, let us see what the democratic
board in ltP" county did. They con-
traqted with T. M. Richardson for a
house that cost $.">,000, for which they
agree that the county shall pay $200 a
month rent for five years, which
amounts to II'Mmjo and at the expira-
tion of the live years and when the
building is about worn out, the county
is to take it olT of Mr. Richardson's
bands, Reaving the county with an old,
dilapidated building which cost the
people (-,f oountj 912,000, or *
present of $7,000 to Mr. Richardson by
the denocratic board of commissioners

county.
