THE TIMES' POLITICAL PLATFORM
Protection to the American silver dollar.
Protection to American labor by protect-
ing American industries.
For president of the United States, 1896,
William McKlnley, of Ohio.
Delegate to Congress,
DENNIS FLYNN.
"Dennis Flynn clubs" are spring-
ing np like mushrooms all over the
territory.
P COUNTY is republican; at least ho
the democrats say when they talk
fusion to tho "pops."
If there was a vote cast today in
the strip for congressional delegate
Flynn would carry it 3 to 1.
The American sovereign will un-
doubtedly divest the democratic party
of its yellow jacket in November.
The Alabama election this year
shows that the populists are, as usual,
Jong on bluster and short on votes.
The Cleveland administration is to
be warmly congratulated. At least
one state—Alabama—is still demo-
cratic.
The democrats are heartily sick of
the tariff question, but like the hunter
who had the bear by the tail, they
can't let it go.
rXRriTBLICJUl,
What the business men of tbii city
are calling "obnoxious legislation"
threatens, if continued, to prove vast-
ly disadvantageous to the business in-
terests of this city.
A walk through the business sec-
tions of Perry shows the inadvisabil-
ity of continuing in effect an ordi-
nance which prohibits farmers and
others from bringing in their produce
and peddling the same on the streets
of Perry. The good sense of passing
such an ordinance was always de-
batable. Siuce it has become a law
it has not only proved unwise, but a
discriminating measure which, in its
effect, is entirely unrepubliean and
should be immediately repealed. The
adjacent farming interests are im-
peratively the interests ol Perry a«
all farming interests are part and
parcel of the interests of all other
cities no matter where they may be
located.
The farmer should be en-
couraged to come in with the wealth
of his farm he should be allowed to
dispose of it it any way he may see fit.
He should be unhampered in his
method of sale and unrestricted as to
the profits he may realize from his
toil. To think or act otherwise is un-
republiean, and an ordinance which
prohibits him from going among the
people to sell the products of his
farm is, in its spirit and in the fact
radically unrepubliean.
Democrats may think otherwise
and try and prevent the farmer, in
the interost of the few, from profit-
ably disposing of his farm products,
but The Times, which is an exemplar
of republicanism, is opposed at all
times and places from putting legis-
lative restrictions upon the bone and
sinew of the country.
We hope the ordinance referred to
will be repealed and Tiik Times
speaks in the interest of the farming
and business interests of P county
when it makes this suggestion.
