The republicans are jubilant while
the democrat! arc correapondingly
blue.
Ol'R morning contemporary is still
hammering away at the county com-
missioners.
The DemocratH are beginning to
feel good because they are getting
some postofflces.
Tb) democrats are making fur fl;'
in their own ranks. The republicans
will heartily assist them in a very few
days.
Brogan says he wont hunt for it.
but if it comes to him, all right. He
wont think it all right when the P.ghc
is over.
The new register was appointed
just in time to be chief mourner at
the funeral of the democratic party
in Perry and P county.
Every republican in P county
ahould attend the county convention
at the city hail on next Saturday
whether a delegate or not. Be pres-
ent and see how the bird flies.
The republicans are feeling breezy
and in excellent humor today. Hiey
will have good men in the field the
coming municipal election and they
know their candidates will be elected.
Men were noticed at work clearing
out the waste water boxes along the
(rotters of the city today. This will
give good lee way to the evaporat-
ing snow which, in somo places, is
piled quito thickly in drifts and, if
not attended to is quite likely to form
amightly and obstructive pools. It
is quite well to have such matters
looked after la tiase.
HOW Till: PEOPLE STAND.
The democratic-party in Perry are
the outcome of chaos. The tlrst re-
pjWTcan may of *111 be "the outcome
of law and order. The day of the
hoodlum has gone by. The class that
elected the present officials has been
eliminated from the population and
affairs, political,have changed for the
better. Men who leave here to vote
in Oklahoma City will be marked
with red chalk if they come back and
try the same game in Perry.
Men who go anywhere else may say
gjodby to their Perry franchise.
Heelers, bums and bloaters, if there
be any to be found in the community,
and of course there are for they con-
stitute an essential element of the
democratic party, or at least did in
the first election, will be wise if they
keep quiet in there holes for, as sure
as fate, they will bo gobbled up by a
properly constituted authority and
put at rest for a term of seasons or,
mayhap, at work at a congenial oc-
cupation on the rock pile.
Yes, indeed. The element tiiat will
go to the polls in the coming contest
will be that of approved citizenship
and we say this of the democrats as
well as of the republicans, for, as we
have previously remarked, we will
take care of the hoodlum ring which
constituted sueli a powerful factor in
the first political contest and which
succeeded in getting in its work to the
great disgust of honest men and, of
course, to the infinite satisfaction of
the democratic party.
Now, we are breathing a new at-
mosphere .and society is organized.
Law and order prevails. The people
are quite well acquainted with each
other and public men have been care-
fully watched, and the needs and ne-
cessities of the community, and how
they have been fostered and attended
to, has attracted the attention of the
people. The democratic party have
been on trial and shown the people
what they could do if left severely
alone. They have also not failed to
show the public what they could not
do, and they did not forget to let us
see what they could do but which they
left undone.
"The people of Perry are pretty
profound." They think deeply and
often; and no other people in this
territory have had such poignant
cause for heavy and comprehensive
thinking. They know and well know
the needs of the city. They know
and well know the opportunities that
the democrats have had to do good,
and eminent good, and they know
and well know that their opportun-
ities have been shamefully neglected.
They will go to the polls with this
knowledge and there they will make
a ballot tight for the safety of this
city on the same lines as they shot
their bullets for the salvation of the
Union in the bloody and heroic days
of 'Gl and '05.
Tin: < OJIIXCi ( ()N\ KNTIOX.
Now that the republican caucus
have elected their delegates to the
county convention to be liolden on
the 17th inst., it behooves every man
to strip for the fight and be ready in
the coming contest to do his whole
duty. Important interests are at
stake and in a measure the future in-
terests of county P are in the hands
of these representative men. The re-
publican party of the county and the
territory for that matter, expect from
them wise as well as conservative ac-
tion, for they should bear in mind
that all they do bears directly upon
every vital interest of their section.
Harmony of action and unanimity of
purpose should characterize their
course and sectionalism, come from
what course it may, should be stamped
down in the convention and the cause
of it strongly rebuked.

Tiib Times said in a recent issue
that no democrat, however clean, can
can carry to victory a party loaded
with such political filth. In another
column in the samo issue was a
splendidly-written communication by
W. A. Stone, headed "North Perry"
in which he argues that :
"It makes no difference which po-
litical party succeeds at the April
election. Whichever prevails, be it
democratic or republican, our city
government will he administered on
the lines of honesty and economy and
the croakers who are now predicting
robbery and disaster will only be re-
diculous because of their folly."
The latter quotation is the idea of
Mr. Stone, and coincides in no re-
spect with that of The Times, but Tiie
Times is a paper for the people, and
its columns are open to a free and
liberal discussion of any subject by
the people.
Tub Times still maintains that no
democrat, though as clean as Clairette
soap, can puil the democratic party
from the quag mire into which it has
fallen in this territorv.
Something Mori About that Important
(•uaraiitcc that Will fli mi Cavillers.
Tn our article yesterday on Mr.
Iloke Smith's direlictiou in furnish-
ing a patent for the Perry townsite,
we made no reference to the time
taken in granting a patent to the city
of Guthrie, nor to any other city but
to the general rapid action of Mr.
Harrison's administration in putting
forward the interests of the Territory
of Oklahoma. Opening new sections
of the public domain at that time,
was quite an intricate and import-
ant operation. Five years have
elapsed since then, and, with the
vast experience derived from the
past the work before Mr. Smith is and
was comparatively easy.
The patent to Hysell of Orlando,
was issued almost immediately, after
the conditions had been Jsubserved
and the land proved up. It makes no
odds, however, when patents issued
five years ago. At this time there is
no legitimate excuse for delay—not a
scintilla and arguments pro nor con
will get Mr. Smith out of the deep
hole into which his gross direliction
has placed him. Buncombe argu-
ments will not avail. The patent is
due. The people need it. The town-
site board are incomplete without it
in their authority. Why does not
Mr. Smith issue it?" We have nothing
to do with any other city in the terri-
tory and are not interested whether
they have patents or not, or, when
they got them, if they have them at
all. Perry wants her patent and
wants it now and that is all there is
to it.
