Kx Governor Palmer, a late Dem-
cratic candidate for president, on
being asked his opinion as to the
stand the Democratic party should
take in the next campaign in order
to bring about harmony in the par
ty ranks, answered as follows :
ou ask what, in my opinion,

party harmony arid united action
during the coming campaign ? '
"I answer, let the next national
Democratic convention nominate a
conservative man for the presiden-

Judge VanNVyck, or ex Senator Vi

\\fE greet our many friends with a new and full line of Fall Goods. They are arriving
now every day—goods of all varieties and prices. It is conceded by all that we carry the best
line of goods in town....We also sell them at prices which others ask for inferior goods....Why ?
Because we sell strictly for Cash, and the same price to everybody.
Many lines of goods—in fact, nearly all—have advanced in price, but we will continue
to sell them at the Same Old Price, and in many instances much lower.
Trunks and Valises is one line, especially, that has advanced, but we bought them several
months before the rise; we can sell you a good trunk for $1.50 or $2.00; extra value in
trunks at from $2.50 to $5.00.
Our line of Plow Shoes, for $1.00 and $1.25, are good wearers, and a splendid value.
Our competitors wonder how we can do it.
Such goods as Cotton Checks, Calicoes and Domestics have gone up, almost more than
than anything else, but we'll continue to sell the best calicoes at 5 cents.
We have just received a new line of Belt Buckles, Elastic Belts, Beauty Pins, and other
Fancy Goods.
WHEN YOU ARE IN TOWN BE SURE AND CALL ON US.

be kicking up such a fuss over this
Philippine war. At one time they
had the power to prevent the adop-
tion of the treaty, by which, at least
an attempt was made to cede the
islands to the United States.
Judge Dale was the first promi-
nent Democrat in this territory to
cut loose from Bryan and attach
himself to the eastern wing of the
Democratic party. Judge Lowe has
now followed suit, and in a short
time there will be numbers of them
seen tumbling out of the Bryan
wagon. The old line of officeseek-
ers possess a strong sense of smell, ^
and they scent Bryan's defeat in
the next Democratic convention
and want it known that they were
not Bryan men. Original anti Bry-

in the next election, would have as

nearly like the Republican platform
as possible, and we can win." That
advice was followe
nominated, and the people general-
ly believe he was elected though he
was not seated, anil from that time
till 1896 the Democrats followed
Tilden's idea of platform-building.
In other words, the Democratic par
ty has sought to w in on the dissatis-
faction of the people towards the
Republican party, rather than on
any great difference in the policy
advocated. It is our opinion that
the next Democratic platform will
ery much like the Republican
; platform and the candidate will be
1 one to fit it.

what may be their cry in the cam-

to murder their offspring, and for
the old parties to engage in a real
war against trusts, which they by
legislation have created and foster-

a proceeding as parents murdering
their offspring. Their warfare on
trusts during a campaign is made in
order that after the election they
may still be in a position to look af-
