The result of the Oklahoma
Statehood convention has beau
distinct set-back for etatehood.
Had the committee on creden-
tials reported at the Oklahoma
convention the single statehood
would have had a majority of
ten votes.
That row at Oklahoma City is
natural result? of Texas and Kati-
-.(ts both claiming a motherly
-uzerainty over Oklahoma. -

the Republicans are making a
great talk ;iow thai, the Shawnee
convention must be held as the
sentiment of Oklahoma, and for
congress to act accordingly.
That's in their favor. When the
Sid Clarke call was read at okla-
homa City, and which had been
endorsed at Shawnee by by these
fellows, admitting the Chickasaw
delegation to representation, the
republicans want square back on
the Shawnee call, and favored the
Pawnee call, in order to defeat'
single statehood. That's Repub-

The Flynn bill for Oklahoma
statehood, which we published
last week, and :vhieh all our read*
ars can carefully consider, pres-
ents to this country just the con-
dition that the Register has always
said was to be feared by our peo-
ple. It makes a state at once of
Oklahoma, leaving out the coun
tries of the five tribes to come in
at some time in the future. That
means that Oklahoma will go into
statehood, locate all the publ.c
institutions in her towns, secure
to herself every advantage to be
gained in tho formation of a state
then later we will be attached to
them, under a constitution we
have had no voice in framing and
with nothing left for our country
in the way of public institutions.
I'here is in no quarter an actual
belief tliat two states will even be
made of the original Indian terri-
tory, However much a few part-
ies, ambitious for public office,-or
bouyed up by hopes of local ad-
vantage to be gained, may attempt
to delude themselves with a belief
in the formation, of t.v>to states,
they know, a! heart, that, it will
never be done, but that the state
of die future, no matter how long
may be defered in coming, will
include within its border all that i
was originally included within
the bounds of the Indian Terri-
tory before the severance of Okla-
homa proper, also taking iu wliak
was then No Man's Land and I
Greer county. This being true, |
it is clearly seen that the only
hope of a proper recognition of
the people of the Indian country
iti framing of laws and location
