Editor French, of the I'uUicist, as
is mentioned elsewhere, is ln Kansas
City this week, and the Journaes
port of the "reform" press meeting
makes several references to our worthy
fellow-citizeu Speaking of the meet-
ing having :'oached no definite results,
the Journal says: "To be sure there
had been numerousoplnions expressed
especially by Editor French of Okla-
homa. Mr. French is not in Bymathy
with tho fusion faction, bu„ failed to
get transportation to Memphis where
his crowd met and so Stooped here.
He has kept several members on tho
jump during the cntiro meeting with
his persistent objections.
Then the Journal reported ono of his
speeches: "Editor French, of Oklaho-
ma, created a row when ho got the
floor for the twenty-sixth timo during
the day, and charged bad faith to many
people. The i ffort to organizo wes
sure to rend tho party in twain, 'split
us up the center,' I10 declared. Then
he s. id with gusto that ho was not a
candidate for the split. 'There Is be-
hind this a movement that has for Its
object the humiliation and disruption
Otthe populist party iu Missouri' he
shouted. 'Only yesterday there was
an insulting proposition mado to
the Silver forces of the stalo to disbanl
and go Into the democratic party, and
if this organization is carried out, the
democratic party will have cleft us in
twain in the state.' "
This speech caused a row. Ac un-
couth Nebraska man tried to argue for
an organization of fusion editors. The
Journal says: "Then Mr. French, of
Oklahoma bol bed up serenely. No

It makes one vory tired to see how
badly tho Guthrie Leader mixes tilings
up when it tries to tell something. In

it did not do till Wednesday morning,
It told that tho battlo waged for an
hour, that several officers wore wound
ed, and that Solomon and Garfield
Grissom were brought to town and
jailed all of which was untrue.
The legislature in its consideration
of fee and salary moasuros is starting
out in a fair wuy to show that it knows
nothing at ail about the relative work
and expense connect;d with running
the several county offices. Tho effort
to reduce salaries is cummondablo in
so tar as it is coupled with intelligence
enough to comprehend tho nee^s of the
counties but ir it results in r. horh onlal
cut, regardless of tho fact that pay
of different officers for the same amount
of work is not nearly equal now, it will
not only be sillly but injurious also.
