The Band Concert
The band concert at the opera
house Friday evening was well
attended and program rendered
heartily enjoyed by all present.
The boys were at their best and
up in an imposing way dressed,
in white shirts and collars with
black bow ties seated on a stage
decorated in national colors.
Many compliments have since
been passed upon them for their
efficiency in such a short time.
They have only been organized
four months, but render credit-
ably a number of standard piec-
es. Hon. C. Guy Cutlip acted a
master of ceremonies, and h ,
together with Mr. Whitey. Mr.
Winter and Judge Cobb, enter-
tained the audience with short
but appropriate addresses be-
tween numbers. The band real-
ized the neat little sum of $36
from the entertainment, which
makes a nice beginning on the
purchase of uniforms. At the
conclusion of the program, Mr.
Stringfield very generously ex-
pressed a willingness to head a
subscription list with $10 for the
benefit ol tne band.
The boys appreciate well the
splendid patronage accorded the
concert, and for the many words
of praise showered upon them.
They promise some open air
treats for the public pretty soon
— provided a band stand is built.
Mrs. T. S. Cobb gave a miscel-
laneous shower Saturday after-
noon in honor of Miss Ruth Ba-
ker. A large crowd of the young
girls attended and presented the
bride with many beautiful pres-
ents. Each girl wrote a compo-
sition “how to retain your hus-
band’s love” which was read and
if the instructions are followed
there is no doubt you will hear
of the grandest marriage in the
worid. The house was decorat- Qug Poj>1 w cafied to Bok-
ed in pink and white carnations, tj,e latter part of last week
and refresnmenta served. Punch #n uxomt ot th. «,rioua illness
was served by Miss Maxine Cut- . . ., h j. vieitin* there.
