journed at 7:30, Saturday morning,
the clocks, in the halls, being set
back to midnight, as that was the
time limit of the session Much
business was transacted after mid-
night, and the question of its legality
will be raised.
.John .). Pitts of Wellington, will
be married next Tuesday to Miss
Lola Bishop of Bloomington, 111. Mr.
Pitts returned from Buenos Ayres,
Argentine Republic, South America,
February 23, where he went last
spring in the interest of the Acme
Harvesting company at Peoria, 111.
Mr. and Mrs. Pitts will probably
make their home in Wellington,
though they ar* yet undecided on
this point —Wellington Journal.
About fifteen Woodmen, including
the Blackwell team, came up from
that place last Friday night to help
the lodge here initiate several candi-
dates into the mysteries of woodcraft
After conferring the degrees on the
candidates all repaired to the Hotel
Buckle where a banquet had been
prepared, which was enjoyed very
much by the hungry choppers. Our
hoys are loud in the praise of the
work of the Blackwell team and
hope they will make them another
visit—Braman Star.
Oklahoma City Times-.lournal
George Gibson, the man accused of
horsestealing, who gave the'police
such a hard chase a few days ago,
will be turned over to the United
States marsnal, Hammer, this after
noon and will betaken with him to
Ardmore to answer to the charge of
horsestealing in the United States
court, now in session at that place
Under the United States laws he can
he given five years if convicted, and
here could get hut three. If he is
not convicted there he will be re-
turned to this county and tried for
the otfense.

An exchange thus bids farewell to
a departed citizen: “He played mar-
bles for keeps when a hoy and cheat-
ed all his playmates out of tneir
allies; he swapped a bladder,* knife
sight and unseen for a four blade,
sold that for 50c; bought a dozen
lemons and a pound of sugar and
made a barrel of lemonade which he
sold circus day for $8. He began
business and sold bad meats for
choice cuts and made a fortune: when
he had a thousand dollars he orga-
nized a company with $0,000,000
capital, mostly water, and sold the
stock at par: when the company bust-
ed it was found that he had sold out
sometime before. When he died he
was a millionaire and left It all here.
It is very warm where he is now.’’

business, but after going east on a
tour of investigation, It is said that
he found that he was not It, and
came back home satisfied to take the
position of oil Inspector.

cra/.e has struck the newspapers of
Oklahoma this spring and many of
them are embarking in that perilous
undertaking
The Perry Sentinel is running the
delinquent tax list as a continued
story, or so makes, that part of it
published last week. We supposed
a tax list, was a legal in itself and
did not know it could he printed in
installments to suit the convenience
of the publisher.
They say that In Arkansas the mer-
chants not only fall to appreciate
the value of advertising, but they
are very lazy. A customer went in-
to a store and said: "I'd like to buy
a suit.” The merchant was sitting
down and he drawled “well, call in
some time when I'm standing up.”
A mule sold on the streets here
Saturday for 15.25 He was in fair
llesh, and probably of the vintage of
T>3, but he cou'd walk, and.is stiU
capable of some work lie had not
been in the Boer war as some of the
spectators supposed, but was just
tired looking because he felt that
way.
J. M. Richards, who resides with
his family at 715 East Warner
avenue, has been fasting since Janu-
ary It, and maintains his determina-
tion to continue so doing the re-
mainder of his life. Occasionally he
will suck the juice from an orange,
possibly three to four times per week,
but otherwise he has taken no nour-
ishment during a period of over forty

In 1891 Tom Rryan who is now our
efficient county treasure started in-
to the cattle business witli a herd of
cattle consisting of one cow and calf.
He stuck to the business as tenacious-
ly as he has to the office of county
treasurer and today is the owner of 35
head of cattle with a possible in-
crease of 20 calves this spring. Tom
will he classed among the cattle kings
of Oklahoma Inside of five years
more if he keeps on at the present
rate —Perry Sentinel.'
The homeseekers, who have been
in Kay county the past ten days, are
visiting Oklahoma at the worst season
of the year, and if they decide to
locate here can do so with the posi-
tive assurance that they have seen
the worst of it Our March breezes
at times get a little unruly, and just
about then, the most of us are wil-
ling to admit that there is some
force to the wind, and that it is a
trifle disagreeable, but it rarely lasts
over a week or two and then our
spring weather is ideal.
The Ardmoreite has considerable
nerve It assumes responsibility for
the following: One hundred and
twenty-five. That’s the age of Susan
Brown a full-blood Chickasaw, who is
on our streets today. Mrs. Brown
was born in Mississippi, just about
the time the declaration of inde-
pendence was drafted and remembers
many things that happened in ante-
bellum times that were read about in
books. She lived near Nebo and at
one time owned a great deal of
property, but shylocks have beat her
out of most of her property —

J. S. Hindman was a caller at the
Courier office this morning. He is
just getting about a little on crutches
after having been laid up all winter
with a broken leg. He says he has
been giving lots of attetntion to his
fruit and that every peach bud in
his orchard has a fine young peach
in It. His fine strawberry patch is in
excellent condition and promises the
largest yield ever seeu iu Oklahoma,
as does every other variety of fruit
that he ha6 examined. He says if
this coldjspell had not occurred the
peaches would have been in full
bloom on the 10th.—Ponca City
